  1. 6. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy in Industrial Hygiene Applications : Assessment of Emissions from and Exposures in Wood Processing Industries

    Author : Urban Svedberg; Christer Edling; Bo Galle; Hans-Erik Högberg; Nils Plato; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; FTIR; Exposure; Emission; Saw mills; Wood pellets; Tracer gas; Monoterpenes; Hexanal; Carbon monoxide; Open path FTIR; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Abstract : This thesis evaluates the use of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) as an approach to the increasingly difficult air sampling challenges within the field of occupational and environmental hygiene. The application of FTIR is exemplified by the assessment of emissions from and exposures in the sawmill and pellet industries. READ MORE

  2. 7. Effects of antiresorptive agents on inflammation and bone regeneration in different osseous sites - experimental and clinical studies

    Author : Carina Cardemil; Peter Thomsen; Cecilia Larsson Wexell; Bente Brokstad Herlofson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Qntiresorptive agents; ovariectomised rat; osteoporosis; skeletal site; differences osteonecrosis of the jaw; osseointegration; bone substitute; inflammation; bone regeneration; gene expression; histomorphometry; Micro-CT; antiresorptive agents; ovariectomised rat; osteoporosis; skeletal site differences; osteonecrosis of the jaw; osseointegration; bone substitute; inflammation; bone regeneration; gene expression; histomorphometry; Micro-CT;

    Abstract : The biological mechanisms involved in bone regeneration in osteoporotic bone and the effect of antiresorptive drugs in relation to surgically inserted biomaterials are not fully understood. Improved osseointegration of titanium implants but also adverse effects of antiresorptive therapies, such as osteonecrotic jaw have been described in the literature. READ MORE

  3. 8. Physiology of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Producing Recombinant Insulin in Continuous Culture

    Author : Ali Kazemi Seresht; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; unfolded protein response; Keywords: heterologous protein production; prolonged chemostat; transcriptome; insulin analogue precursor; metabolic adaptation; URA3d; plasmid copy number; promoter truncation; high cell density cultivation; TPI1;

    Abstract : The yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has widely been used as a host for the production of heterologous proteins. High-level production of heterologous proteins is likely to impose a metabolic burden on the host cell and can thus affect various aspects of cellular physiology. READ MORE

  4. 9. Gliadin-Blocking Peptides In vitro assessment of their potential to alleviate celiac disease development

    Author : Karolina Hoffmann; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; high-gliadin affinity blocking peptides; Caco-2 cells; in vitro digestion; tissue transglutaminase; celiac disease; gliadin; α-amylase trypsin inhibitors;

    Abstract : This thesis work aimed to investigate the potential of synthetic peptides as agents to block wheat prolamins (gliadins) that trigger the development of symptoms in celiac disease. The first step of this investigation included selection and synthesis of peptides with high affinity to gliadins and assessment of the potential of these so-called blocking peptides to limit gliadin reactivity in vitro.
