  1. 1. Long acting local anaesthetics - a study in rats

    Author : Henrik Dyhre; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; in vivo and effect kinetics; Comparison of in vitro; Neuro toxicity; Infraorbital nerve block; Sciatic nerve block; Lipid depot formulation;

    Abstract : Local anaesthetics provide excellent pain relief after central and peripheral nerve blocks. However, in many clinical situations there is an insufficient duration of action to allow effective treatment of long-term pain with single injection techniques. This problem became the focus of the present studies. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Serotonin Transporter and the Vesicular Monoamine Transporters During Development

    Author : Stefan R Hansson; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; whiskers; lateral geniculate; infraorbital nerve; neural crest; merkel; somatosensory cortex; Key wordscitalopram; thalamus; visual cortex; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : In the present study, the mRNA encoding the serotonin transporter (5-HTT) and two isoforms of the vesicular monoamine transporters (VMAT1 and VMAT2) have been mapped in the rat throughout gestation and early postnatal development using in situ hybridization, RT PCR and immunohistochemistry. 5-HTT mRNA was found in serotonergic neurons and VMAT2 mRNA in all monoaminergic neurons from early gestation. 3. 3. Variations in the regulation of pain genes after nerve injury : With focus on sodium channels

    Author : Anna-Karin Persson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Chronic neuropathic pain is a burdensome clinical condition that causes major suffering for countless of individuals worldwide. It is characterized by a hyperreactive nervous system with hyperexcitable neurons that fire in the absence of stimuli or at mild stimuli, causing pain. READ MORE

  4. 4. Heritability and sex differences in experimental neuropathic pain with special emphasis on the role of the major histocompatibility complex

    Author : Cecilia Dominguez; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Neuropathic pain caused by injury to the nervous system is a difficult clinical problem and a large proportion of patients experience no or only partial relief from existing treatments. Pain sensitivity and the development of neuropathic pain are complex biological and physiological entities that are known to be affected by genetics and sex. READ MORE

  5. 5. Pain-related sodium channels in sensory neurons: gene expression during development and after injury

    Author : Jonas Thun; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Pain that goes on over years as a result of nerve damage is an affliction which disables millions of people worldwide. Chronic injury-induced pain can become severely debilitating and extremely difficult to treat. READ MORE
