  1. 1. Designing multicomponent alloy coatings for corrosion protection

    Author : León Zendejas Medina; Ulf Jansson; Leif Nyholm; Zoe Barber; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; corrosion; thin films; coatings; magnetron sputtering; high entropy alloy; percolation theory; mechanical tests; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the design of metallic coatings for corrosion protection. The subject of the study was the new class of materials multicomponent alloys (MCAs, also known as high entropy alloys). They consist of near-equal concentrations of many (four or more) metals and are often reported to form a single phase with a simple crystal structure. READ MORE

  2. 2. Design of carbide-based nanocomposite coatings

    Author : Erik Lewin; Ulf Jansson; Jörg Patscheider; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chemistry; thin film; dc magnetron sputtering; carbide; nanocomposite; PVD; solid solution; Chemistry; Kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis research on synthesis, microstructure and properties of carbide-based coatings is reported. These coatings are electrically conducting, and can be tailored for high hardness, low friction and wear, along with load-adaptive behaviour. Tailoring these properties is achieved by controlling the relative phase content of the material. READ MORE

  3. 3. Reaching Kinetic Selectivities : In Pursuing Novel Ternary Oxide Coatings, and Beyond

    Author : Sebastian Öhman; Mats Boman; Tobias Törndahl; Maarit Karppinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; CVD; coatings; kinetics; crystallization; nucleation; diffusionless; Al2TiO5; oxides; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi; Kemi med inriktning mot materialkemi; Chemistry with specialization in Materials Chemistry;

    Abstract : Kinetically driven synthesis pathways have the potential to allow new ways to develop materials and phases with much-improved properties. This particularly concerns metastable and multicomponent phases that require a selective kinetic targeting during the synthesis to circumvent the formation of thermodynamically stable products. 4. 4. Triboactive Low-Friction Coatings Based on Sulfides and Carbides

    Author : Jill Sundberg; Ulf Jansson; Jochen M. Schneider; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coatings; thin films; tribology; tungsten disulfide; transition metal dichalcogenide; nanocomposite; TiC a-C; tribofilms; PVD; XPS; HAXPES; XRD; SEM; TEM; Raman spectroscopy; nanoindentation; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry;

    Abstract : For sustainable development, it is highly important to limit the loss of energy and materials in machines used for transportation, manufacturing, and other purposes. Large improvements can be achieved by reducing friction and wear in machine elements, for example by the application of coatings. READ MORE

  5. 5. Surface modification of inorganic materials with graphene oxide : From solution to high-temperature synthesis

    Author : Simon Tidén; Ulf Jansson; Mamoun Taher; Erik Lewin; Lars Nyborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Graphene; Graphene oxide; Coatings; Additive Manufacturing; Laser Powder Bed Fusion; Reactive Hot Pressing; Kemi med inriktning mot materialkemi; Chemistry with specialization in Materials Chemistry;

    Abstract : The use of graphene as an additive in materials is often challenging due to the agglomeration of the two-dimensional graphene sheets. An alternative additive is graphene oxide (GO), an oxidized form of graphene, which is easily dispersed in water. READ MORE
