1. Prostate Cancer Diagnosis : experimental and Clinical Studies With HRMAS NMR Spectroscopy
Abstract : A few abnormal cells found in a small piece of prostate tissue are most consequential for a man’s future. The prevalence of prostate cancer (PCa) is increasing globally. READ MORE

2. Hydrothermal Processing of Cereals Optimal Conditions for Phytete Degradation and Myo-Inositol Formation. Effect on Phytase Activity and Mineral Absorption
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to optimise a hydrothermal process to degrade phytate (myo-inositol hexaphosphate), increase the level of free myo-inositol and preserve phytase activity in cereals with the purpose to achieve products with improved mineral bioavailability. Phytate is known to impair mineral absorption and myo-inositol is considered to be a semi-essential nutrient. READ MORE

3. Signal transduction in the brain : modulation of receptor-mediated inositol phospholipid breakdown by potassium and fluoride ions
Abstract : Neurotransmitter receptor types mediating the generation of intracellular signals are of two types; ligand-gated ion channels and G protein coupled receptors. The effector enzyme phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PLC) is modulated by stimulation of G protein coupled receptors, leading to an increased breakdown of inositol phospholipids ("Ptdlns breakdown"). 4. Synthesis of inositol phosphoglycans and analogues thereof
Abstract : This thesis describes the synthesis of inositol phosphoglycans (IPG) corresponding to glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchors found on the cell surface of the parasite Leishmania. Synthesis of an IPG which is a putative second messenger for insulin, and of analogues thereof is also discussed. READ MORE

5. Role of inositol pyrophosphates in pancreatic beta cell function
Abstract : Inositol pyrophosphates are high energy diphosphate containing molecules that are ubiquitous in eukaryotic cells. They have been implicated in diverse cellular processes ranging from DNA repair, telomere length regulation, ribosome synthesis, cell cycle regulation and apoptosis to osmoregulation, phosphate homeostasis, insulin sensitivity, vesicle trafficking, cytoskeletal rearrangement and exocytosis.
