11. The interactome of the yeast mitochondrial ribosome : Organization of mitochondrial post-transcriptional regulation, membrane protein insertion and quality control
Abstract : The proteins found in mitochondria originate from two different genetic systems. Most mitochondrial proteins are synthesized in the cytosol and post-translationally imported into the organelle. However, a small subset of mitochondrial proteins is encoded in an organelle-resident genome. READ MORE

12. What’s in? What’s out? And how did it get there? : Studies on topologies and insertion of membrane proteins
Abstract : Because of their hydrophobic and hydrophilic nature and the need for a lipid bilayer for retaining the native structure, membrane proteins are hard to study. Nevertheless, they are important, as many of our diseases are related to membrane proteins and around 60% of the different pharmaceutical drugs are directed against a membrane proteins [1]. READ MORE

13. Iron based Li-ion insertion materials for battery applications
Abstract : Li-ion batteries are currently the most efficient technology available for electrochemical energy storage. The technology has revolutionized the portable electronics market and is becoming a corner stone for large scale applications, such as electric vehicles. READ MORE

14. Activation of CO2 by Palladium Complexes Bearing Tridentate PCP Ligands
Abstract : The present thesis deals with the activation of CO2 by insertion reactions into palladium-carbon bonds. This has been realised for the complexes {2,6-bis[(di-t-butylphosphino)methyl]benzene}palladium(II)methyl [(PCP)PdMe] and (PCP)PdCH2CHCH2. These complexes have also been used in the catalytic carboxylation of ZnMe2 and Bu3SnCH2CHCH2. READ MORE

15. The rational design of lithium insertion materials for battery applications
Abstract : The transition-metal oxide spine1 LiMn2O4 is a promising cathode material for high-capacity lithium-ion batteries. Structure-property relationships pertaining to the electrochemical cycling behaviour of LiMn2O4 have been studied. READ MORE
