  1. 1. FPGA-based Instrumentation for Advanced Physics Experiments

    Author : Attila Hidvégi; Samuel Silverstein; Martin Grossmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Instrumentation; Data acquisition; clock distribution; trigger; FPGA; PCB; LHC; ATLAS; XFEL; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Modern physical experiments often demand advanced instrumentation based on advances in  technology. This work describes four instrumentation physics projects that are based on modern, high-capacity Field-Programmable Gate Arrays, making use of their versatility, programmability, high bandwidth communication interfaces and signal processing capabilities. 2. 2. Image-based numerical modelling of heterogeneous materials

    Author : Robert Auenhammer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; X-ray computed tomography; image analysis; image-based modelling; Composites;

    Abstract : In science there has always been a desire to visualise the invisible. Since the discovery of X-rays in 1895, imaging research has made remarkable progress. Nowadays, state-of-the-art technology allows to visualise the micro-structure of objects in three dimensions. However, merely visualising the structure is often insufficient. READ MORE

  3. 3. Instrumentation, Control and Automation in Anaerobic Digestion

    Author : Jing Liu; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; ICA; automation; control; monitoring; biosensor; instrumentation; anaerobic digestion; biogas;

    Abstract : Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a biochemical process in nature. It has been used to decompose organic waste in order to reduce environmental pollution, and to destroy pathogenic microorganisms for the protection of human and animal health. The process itself produces methane, which can then be used as an energy source. READ MORE

  4. 4. Neutron Spectrometry Techniques for Fusion Plasmas : Instrumentation and Performance

    Author : Erik Andersson Sundén; Göran Ericsson; Sean Conroy; Erik Traneus; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fusion; plasma diagnostics; neutron spectrometry; neutron spectroscopy; MPRu; magnetic proton recoil spectrometer; fusion; ITER; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : Neutron are emitted from a deuterium plasma with energies around 2.5 MeV. The neutron spectrum is intimately related to the ion velocity distribution of the plasma. As a consequence, the analysis of neutron energy spectra can give information of the plasma rotation, the ion temperature, heating efficiency and fusion power. READ MORE
