  1. 1. Advances in Thermal Insulation : Vacuum Insulation Panels and Thermal Efficiency to Reduce Energy Usage in Buildings

    Author : Thomas Thorsell; Folke Björk; Mark Bomberg; Targo Kalamees; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vacuum insulation panels; VIP; serpentine edge; thermal bridge; composite film; gas diffusion; defect dominated; holistic approach; building enclosure; integrated testing and modeling; energy equivalent; field performance; air flow; thermal insulation efficiency;

    Abstract : We are coming to realize that there is an urgent need to reduce energy usage in buildings and it has to be done in a sustainable way. This thesis focuses on the performance of the building envelope; more precisely thermal performance of walls and super insulation material in the form of vacuum insulation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modeling and Testing of Insulation Degradation due to Dynamic Thermal Loading of Electrical Machines

    Author : Zhe Huang; Industriell elektroteknik och automation; []
    Keywords : thermal degradation; thermal cycle; dynamic temperature; thermal-mechanical; fatigue; electrical insulation system; accelerated testing; condition monitoring; electrical machine; electrified vehicles;

    Abstract : Electrical machines in electrified vehicles are subjected to dynamic loadings at different driving conditions, which results in dynamic temperatures. The aging of the Electrical Insulation System (EIS) in electrical machines is caused by these dynamic temperatures, namely high average temperatures and temperature cycles. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characterization of Conduction and Polarization Properties of HVDC Cable XLPE Insulation Materials

    Author : Hossein Ghorbani; Hans Edin; Erling Ildstad; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HVDC insulation; power cable insulation; cross-linked polyethylene insulation; conductivity; dielectric losses; space charge; HVDC isolation; kraftkabel isolation; tvärbunden polyeten isolationsmaterial; elektrisk ledningsförmåga; dielektriska förluster; rymdladdning; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Since its first introduction in 1998, extruded direct current (DC) cable technology has been growing rapidly leading to many cable system installations with operation voltages up to 320 kV. Cable manufacturers invest heavily on technology development in this field and today extruded DC cable systems for operation voltages as high as 525 kV are commercially available. READ MORE

  4. 4. Arbitrary Waveform Impedance Spectroscopy for Characterization and Diagnostics of High Voltage Insulation

    Author : Björn Sonerud; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; insulation testing; aging; monitoring; discrete Fourier transforms; Dielectric measurements; dielectric materials;

    Abstract : In high voltage engineering the dielectric response technique is a widely used tool both for characterization of insulation materials and for diagnostics of components such as transformers and cables. Currently available techniques are not capable of measuring on-line which would be advantageous; when characterizing a material and evaluating the effect of different voltage magnitudes, waveforms and temperatures it is desirable to be able to observe the continuous development of the dielectric properties. 5. 5. Natural Convection Heat Transfer in a Horizontal Thermal Insulation Layer Underlying an Air Layer

    Author : Mihail Serkitjis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; air layer; thermal insulation; composite system; heat transfer; numerical simulation; natural convection; porous layer; measurements; testing equipment;

    Abstract : In the thesis a study is made of the influence of natural convection on heat transfer in a composite system comprising a porous material heated from below and an air space situated above this. The measuring apparatus, a Wind Box which has been designed and developed at the Department of Building Physics is described. READ MORE
