  1. 1. Salt-inducible kinases in adipose tissue

    Author : Johanna Sernevi Säll; Proteinfosforylering; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; salt-inducible kinase; SIK; SIK2; fettväv; fettceller; insulinsignalering; glukosupptag; fetma; insulinresistens; salt-inducible kinase; SIK; SIK2; adipose tissue; adipocytes; insulin signalling; glucose uptake; obesity; insulin resistance;

    Abstract : Obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are metabolic diseases that increase rapidly in the modern society. The underlying mechanisms are complex and involve both environmental and genetic factors. Adipose tissue is an important organ for maintaining whole body energy homeostasis. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Kidney in Different Stages of the Cardiovascular Continuum

    Author : Elisabet Nerpin; Johan Ärnlöv; Erik Ingelsson; Ulf Riserus; Jan Östergren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiology; chronic kidney disease; cystatin C; glomerular filtration rate; albuminuria; euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp; insulin sensitivity; inflammation; oxidative stress; endothelial dysfunction and left ventricular dysfunction; Medicin; Medicine; Nedsatt njurfunktion; insulinresistens; oxidativ stress och utvecklingen av hjärt-kärlsjukdomar;

    Abstract : Patients with chronic kidney disease are at higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease. The complex, interaction between the kidney and the cardiovascular system is incompletely understood, particularly at the early stages of the cardiovascular continuum. READ MORE

  3. 3. Coupling mechanisms of insulin secretion - roles of mitochondrial metabolism and cAMP

    Author : Ulrika Krus; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; secreting systems; Endocrinology; pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase; beta-cells; pyruvate carboxylase; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; diabetes;

    Abstract : Type 2 diabetes is a disease that increases tremendously in the western world. It is characterized by insulin resistance and defects in insulin secretion. Insulin resistance is tightly linked to obesity, and usually precedes the onset of type 2 diabetes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Transcriptional activity of PPARγ in primary human adipocytes

    Author : Lilian Sauma; Fredrik Nyström; Mats Söderström; Jan Eriksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The prevalence of obesity is increasing in most parts of the world and is a strong risk factor for the development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and hypertension. Adipose tissue is mainly composed of adipocytes which store energy in the form of triglycerides and release it as free fatty acids. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genetic and Metabolic Markers for the Development of Diabetes after Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

    Author : Magnus Ekelund; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oral glucose tolerance tests; Genetics; Autoimmunity; Insulin sensitivity; Gestational diabetes mellitus; Insulin secretion; HbA1c; Fasting glucose; FTO-gene; Postpartum diabetes;

    Abstract : The aims of this work were to determine the prevalence of postpartum diabetes among women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in a prospective study 5 years postpartum; to characterize these women according to insulin secretion, insulin sensitivity, autoimmunity and genetics; and to identify possible markers and predictors for the development of manifest diabetes. The subjects were recruited through a regional screening programme in which oral glucose tolerance tests (OGTTs) are routinely offered to all pregnant women. READ MORE
