  1. 1. Methods for measurements of chlorophyll fluorescence, luminescence and photosynthesis in intact plants

    Author : Erik Sundbom; Thor Bernt Trondheim Melö; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Luminiscence; delayed light emission; phytoluminography; fluorescence; in vivo chlorophyll a^ fluorescence; photosynthesis; electron transport; frost tolerance; intact plants; Physiological Botany; fysiologisk botanik;

    Abstract : Methods were developed to study delayed light emission (luminiscence) and fluorescence changes in intact leaves of plants. Delayed light emission, detected from plants in darkness, was used to produce images of the plant leaves. The procedure was termed "phytoluminography". READ MORE

  2. 2. Cyanobacteria in symbiosis with plants : Protein patterns and regulatory mechanisms

    Author : Martin Ekman; Birgitta Bergman; Dave G. Adams; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cyanobacteria; symbiosis; Nostoc; Gunnera; Azolla; nitrogenase; modification; heterotrophic; proteomics; unsequenced; Plant physiology; Växtfysiologi;

    Abstract : Cyanobacteria belonging to the heterocystous genus Nostoc, capable of oxygenic photosynthesis and nitrogen fixation via the enzyme nitrogenase, may form symbiotic associations with plants. In these associations most of the N2 fixed by the symbiotic cyanobacteria (cyanobiont) is transferred to the host, which in turn supplies the cyanobiont with fixed carbon. READ MORE

  3. 3. Monitoring primary carbon metabolism in plants using heavy isotope labelling and mass spectrometry : ¹³CO₂ labelling, detection and estimation in intact plants

    Author : Pernilla Linden; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis covers the possibilities and limitations of studying primary metabolism in intact plants, with special focus on heavy isotope labelling and mass spectrometry methodology. In paper I, a series of Arabidopsis thaliana mutants lacking one or both genes of mitochondrial malate dehydrogenase (mMDH characterised) were characterised. READ MORE

  4. 4. Secondary chlorophyll a luminescence decay kinetics from green algae and higher plants : mechanisms and application

    Author : Lars-Göran Sundblad; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; luminescence; fluorescence; photosynthesis; far red; CO2 accumulation; S-states; QA; reverse coupling; qE; frost hardiness;

    Abstract : Barley protoplasts were shown to be a suitable experimental system for studies on the relative maximum during the decay of luminescence observed in most photosynthetic systems after excitation with far red light and in the presence of O2. The far red induced relative luminescencemaximum was shown to be a result of three coinciding events:*Randomization of the S-states of the water splitting system during illumination with far red light. 5. 5. The plant respiratory chain: Redox responses and catalytic definition of alternative pathways

    Author : Daniela Geisler; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; enzymology; Proteins; Kärlväxters fysiologi; Physiology of vascular plants; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; Växtbiokemi; Plant biochemistry; respiratory chain; plant mitochondria; nitrogen; NADPH dehydrogenase; NADH dehydrogenase; alternative oxidase; calcium; Proteiner; enzymologi; Bioenergetics; Bioenergetik; Lipids; steroids; membranes; Lipider; steroider; mebran;

    Abstract : The respiratory chain of plants contains both proton-pumping enzymes that conserve energy and non-proton-pumping alternative enzymes that bypass the sites of energy conservation. In addition to the proton-pumping complex I, plant mitochondria contain alternative type II NAD(P)H dehydrogenases, which allow oxidation of NADH and NADPH from the matrix and the cytosol. READ MORE
