6. Reconfigurable and Wideband Receiver Components for System-on-Chip Millimetre-Wave Radiometer Front-Ends
Abstract : This thesis presents solutions and studies related to the design of reconfigurable and wideband receiver circuits for system-on-chip (SoC) radiometer front-ends within the millimetre-wave (mm-wave) range. Whereas many of today’s mm-wave front-ends are bulky and costly due to having discrete RF components, single-chip receiver modules could potentially result in a wider use for emerging applications such as wireless communication, short range radar and passive imaging security sensors if realised with adequate performances and at a lower cost. 9. Silicon micromachined waveguide components for terahertz systems
Abstract : This thesis presents silicon micromachined waveguide components for sub-terahertz and terahertz (THz) systems fabricated by deep reactive ion etching (DRIE). Historically the main driving force for the development of THz systems has been space-based scientific instruments for astrophysics, planetary and Earth science missions. READ MORE

10. Grating Based Lasers for Photonic Integration and Surface Emission
Abstract : This thesis deals with the fabrication and characterization of grating-based integration-compatible semiconductor lasers. Waveguide gratings provide feedback for the laser resonators, and are used to diffract the laser output out of the waveguide for surface-emission. READ MORE
