1. Statistical and Dynamical Aspects of Intermediate Energy Nuclear Collisions
Abstract : Studies of intermediate energy heavy ion reactions have revealed the existence of a number of reducibility and thermal scaling properties in nuclear multifragmentation. In particular, the probability of emitting n-fragments is reducible to the probability of emitting a single fragment through the binomial distribution. READ MORE

2. Studies of Nuclear Matter under Extreme Conditions: Heavy-Ion Interactions at Ultra-Relativistic Energies
Abstract : The charged particle production in ultra-relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions in the energy range 4-200 A GeV has been studied. Two different experimental techniques have been utilized: nuclear emulsions and Multi-Step Avalanche Chambers. READ MORE

3. Spatial and temporal metrology of intense attosecond pulses
Abstract : Attosecond pulses are short enough to capture the electronic dynamics in atoms and molecules. The work presented in this thesis deals with the generation and optimization of attosecond extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) pulses. READ MORE

4. Spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar for Sea Ice Observations, Concentration and Dynamics
Abstract : Spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is the primary choice for sea ice monitoring due to its all-weather, day-and-night capability and regular delivery of high resolution images. This thesis presents methods for estimation of sea ice concentration and drift, a multi-sensor study of Baltic Sea ice radar signatures and an interferometric study of landfast sea ice. READ MORE

5. Development of Detector Systems for Internal and Fixed Target Heavy Ion Physics Experiments
Abstract : This thesis deals with intermediate energy heavy ion reactions with the particular aim to study the nuclear matter equation of state which defines the relation between statistical parameters of a fermionic system. The development of equipment for two experiments, CA47 at The Svedberg Laboratory in Uppsala, Sweden and R16 at Kernfysisch Versneller Instituut (KVI), Groningen, The Netherlands, are described.
