    University dissertation from Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care

    Author : Görel Nergelius; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [1997]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; protein HC; IgG; albumin; pharmacokinetics; diclofenac; clearance; elderly; penicillin; isoxazolyl; tubular; glomerular; arthroplasty; exercise; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård;

    Abstract : Total hip replacement (THR) is a common procedure, generally performed in elderly persons. Previous studies indicated that the use of isoxazolyl penicillins could induce a transient post-operative renal dysfunction in these patients. READ MORE

    Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Vård och behandling av akut postoperativ och cancer-relaterad smärta: Patienters erfarenheter och uppfattningar i förhållande till hälsorelaterad livskvalitet och smärtans dimensioner Trots att det finns effektiva behandlingsmetoder för patienter med postoperativ smärta och cancer-relaterad smärta så lider många patienter av smärta. Denna avhandling beskriver patienter med postoperativ smärta samt patienter inom palliativ vård med cancer-relaterad smärta samt deras erfarenheter och uppfattningar av vård och behandling, med avseende på hälsorelaterad livskvalitet och smärtans dimensioner. 4. 4. Nitric oxide in experimental sepsis

    University dissertation from Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Lund

    Author : Peter Dahm; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [1998]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Nitric oxide; Sepsis; NO inhalation; Endotoxin; Acute lung injury; ARDS; Nitric oxide synthase; L-NMMA; L-NAME; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology; Pigs; intensivvård;

    Abstract : Nitric oxide (NO) is important in the control of blood pressure and organ perfusion. In septic shock, NO produced by inducible NO-synthase (NOS) has been claimed to mediate pathological vasodilation and cell injury, while NO produced by constitutive NOS may be protective in counteracting hypoperfusion and organ injury. 5. 5. Microdialysis and Intensive Care. Clinical and experimental studies

    University dissertation from Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care, Lund

    Author : Per Ederoth; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology; traumatic brain injury; glucose; glycerol; lipolysis; epidural; postoperative analgesia; experimental pancreatitis; human; blood-brain barrier; morphine; pharmacokinetics; Microdialysis; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård;

    Abstract : Microdialysis was used to monitor local concentrations of energy metabolites in different organs, and to study the pharmacokinetics of morphine over the blood-brain barrier in intact and injured brain tissue in conditions treated in the Intensive Care Unit. After major abdominal or thoracoabdominal surgery, postoperative thoracic epidural analgesia resulted in higher glycerol concentrations in the deltoid subcutaneous adipose tissue, implying increased lipolysis, on the third postoperative day as compared to intravenous infusion of morphine, possibly due to a locally increased sympathetic tone.
