  3. 3. Negative Ions Interacting with Photons and Electrons

    Author : Anton Lindahl; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Negative ions; electron correlation; electron affinity; photodetachment; electron collision;

    Abstract : Negative ions are atoms or molecules where an extra electron is bound to neutral system. The nature of negative ions differs fundamentally from neutral and positive systems. The induced dipole potential responsible for the binding of the extra electron supports only a few bound states with relatively small binding energies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Strongly Interacting Electrons in One and Two Dimensions

    Author : Fabrizio Anfuso; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis I present a theoretical study of three differentstrongly correlated systems: Luttinger liquids, spin-1 chains andthe two-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg model.For every sub-field of our research I summarize the background andprovide further details to the work presented in the appendedpapers. 5. 5. Laser-driven beams of fast ions, relativistic electrons and coherent x-ray photons

    Author : Olle Lundh; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plasma Acceleration of Electrons and Ions; Advanced Accelerator Concepts; X-ray Lasers; Intense Beams and Radiation Sources; Intense Laser-Plasma Interactions;

    Abstract : This thesis presents experimental results on the development and optimization of novel and highly compact sources of beams of fast ions, relativistic electrons and coherent x-rays, driven by intense laser-plasma interactions. The rapid development of high-power, short-pulse laser systems have made available peak powers reaching the petawatt regime and focused intensities reaching 10^21 W/cm2. READ MORE
