  1. 11. Kinetic Recognition of Nucleic Acids - Studies on the DNA Binding Selectivity of Threading Ruthenium Complexes

    Author : Pär Nordell; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; intercalation; circular dicroism; ruthenium complexes; sequence selectivity; fluorescence; DNA; supercoiling; spectroscopy; kinetics;

    Abstract : Despite the great progress in our understanding of DNA during the past half-century, there are many important aspects of its chemical and biological role yet to be explored. The principles by which it selectively interacts with other molecules have attracted much interest due to the relevance for fundamental cellular processes, as well as for the development of diagnostic probes and effective pharmaceutical agents. 2. 12. DNA Interactions with Chiral Polyaza-aromatic Ruthenium(II) Complexes

    Author : Per Lincoln; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phenanthroline; binding geometry; binding isotherm; DNA; dppz; linear dichroism; intercalation; ruthenium; cooperative binding;

    Abstract : The binding to DNA of a series of chiral ruthenium complexes is studied with optical spectroscopy techniques, including isotropic absorption, linear dichroism (LD) and emission anisotropy as well as steady-state and time-resolved luminescence. The thesis focuses on the ìlight-switchî complex [Ru(phen)2dppz]2+ which binds to DNA by intercalation and luminesces when bound to DNA but not in pure buffer solution (phen=1,10-phenanthroline; dppz=dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine). 4. 14. Astrochemical Surface Science: Water Desorption from Nanostructured Graphite

    Author : Anna Clemens; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; intercalation; temperature programmed desorption; diffuse reflection; geometrical resonances; water ice; ultra high vacuum;

    Abstract : To date, around 180 different molecules have been identified in the interstellar medium (ISM). Some of them form molecular ices on cold interstellar dust grain surfaces. An interstellar dust grain particle is in the order of nanometres in size and is usually composed of a carbonaceous or silicatious grain core. READ MORE

  5. 15. Reactions on nanostructured and microporous surfaces

    Author : Anna Clemens; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : Interactions between surfaces and molecules play a central role in various fields where catalysis is one example. In order to understand different surface processes, physicochemical characterisation of the surface materials and molecules is required. READ MORE
