  1. 6. DNA Interaction Dynamics of Ruthenium(II) Complexes

    Author : Fredrik Westerlund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorescence; ruthenium; polarized spectroscopy; threading; sequence selectivity; photophysics; binding kinetics; DNA; intercalation;

    Abstract : DNA-binding of small synthetic ligands is of great importance in a number of different applications, from medicine to molecular biology. This thesis focuses on interactions between DNA and ruthenium(II) complexes, in particular the dimers [µ-bidppz(L)4Ru2]4+ (L=1,10-phenanthroline (P) or L=2,2-bipyridine (B)). READ MORE

  2. 7. Groove-binding Unsymmetrical Cyanine Dyes for DNA Applications

    Author : Maja Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polarized spectroscopy; bacteriophage T5; cryo-transmission electron microscopy; dynamic light scattering; DNA; intercalation; cyanine dyes; groove-binding; fluorescence spectroscopy; gel electrophoresis;

    Abstract : This work focuses on interactions between DNA and a group of newly developed unsymmetrical cyanine dyes. The aim of the work was to discover fluorescent dyes that can be used in biophysical studies of natural DNA where minimum perturbation of the DNA-helix is essential, where a slow dissociation rate of the dyes is needed and where the ionic strength is an important parameter. 3. 8. Controlling function by structure-intermolecular interactions and crystal engineering with N-donor ligands

    Author : Mohamed I D M Ghazzali; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; OPL; 10 phenanthroline]2 .; single crystal diffraction; intermolecular interactions; crystal engineering; Fe II coordination polymers; Schiff’s bases; porphyrins; intercalation; [ Ru tris-1;

    Abstract : In the solid state regime, crystal engineering based on non-covalent synthesis requires an intuition about the intermolecular forces that can dictate the molecular architecture. Hydrogen bonds have become an instrumental tool in the self assembly and supramolecular chemistry. READ MORE

  4. 9. Biological and Biophysical Studies on Ruthenium Complexes

    Author : Anna Mårtensson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; metal susceptibility; DNA; antimicrobial; circular dichroism; ruthenium complex; linear dichroism; isothermal titration calorimetry; intercalation;

    Abstract : Small molecules that interact with DNA through intercalation are attractive candidates for treatments against cancer and microbial infections. Octahedral ruthenium(II) polypyridyl complexes, being substitution-inert, readily synthesized and coordinately saturated, has the potential of being developed in to a new family of drugs. READ MORE

  5. 10. Properties and applications of materials based on graphite oxide

    Author : Andreas Nordenström; Aleksandr V. Talyzin; Thomas Wågberg; Andrey Turchanin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Graphene; Graphite Oxide; Graphene Oxide; Swelling; Phase Transition; Intercalation; Activated Graphene; Activated Carbon; Supercapacitors; Neutron Reflectometry;

    Abstract : Graphite oxide (GO) is a hydrophilic, layered material prepared by oxidation of graphite. In the first part of this thesis, we studied materials produced from GO by intercalation and functionalization. The second part of the thesis was focused on supercapacitor applications of high surface area carbons prepared from GO using chemical activation. READ MORE
