  1. 1. Interlaced proton grid therapy: development of an innovative radiation treatment technique

    Author : Thomas Henry; Irena Gudowska; Tony Lomax; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; proton therapy; grid therapy; spatially fractionated therapy; interlacing; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Abstract : Spatially fractionated radiotherapy, also known as grid therapy (GRID), has been used for more than a century to try to treat several kinds of lesions. Yet, the grid technique remains a relatively unknown and uncommon treatment modality nowadays. READ MORE

  2. 2. On Uniformly Random Discrete Interlacing Systems

    Author : Erik Duse; Kurt Johansson; Patrik Ferrari; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns uniformly random discrete interlacing particle sys-tems and their connections to certain random lozenge tiling models. In par-ticular it contains the first derivation of a relatively unknown universal scalinglimit, which we call the Cusp-Airy process, of certain lozenge tiling modelsat a cusp point. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ghostpeakons

    Author : Budor Shuaib; Hans Lundmark; Krzysztof Marciniak; Erik Wahlén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis we study peakons (peaked solitons), a class of solutions which occur in certain wave equations, such as the Camassa–Holm shallow water equation and its mathematical relatives, the Degasperis–Procesi, Novikov and Geng– Xue equations. These four non-linear partial differential equations are all integrable systems in the sense of having Lax pairs, infinitely many conservation laws, and multipeakon solutions given by explicitly known formulas. 4. 4. 3D-Weaving and Noobing: Characterization of Interlaced and Non-interlaced 3D Fabric Forming Principles

    Author : Nandan Khokar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : TEXTILE-based composite materials are the rapidly developing light-weight engineering materials. Fabrics constitute the reinforcement component of the composite material. The fabrics used in composites manufacture are referred to as preforms and are especially engineered as a single-fabric system to impart reliability and performance. READ MORE

  5. 5. Combinatorics of stable polynomials and correlation inequalities

    Author : Madeleine Leander; Petter Brändén; Jörgen Backelin; Carla Savage; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis contains five papers divided into two parts. In the first part, Papers I-IV, we study polynomials within the field of combinatorics. Here we study combinatorial properties as well as the zero distribution of the polynomials in question. The second part consists of Paper V, where we study correlating events in randomly oriented graphs. READ MORE
