  1. 1. Metabolic effects of interleukin-6

    Author : Ingrid Wernstedt; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IL-6; cytokine; obesity; energy expenditure; lipolysis; ASP; sympathetic nervous system; exercise; -174 G C IL-6 polymorphism; fat mass; stress response; cerebrospinal fluid;

    Abstract : The levels of the cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the circulation are positively correlated with indices of obesity and metabolic disturbances. Paradoxically, plasma IL-6 levels increase markedly during prolonged and strenuous exercise, mainly due to increased production and release from working skeletal muscle. READ MORE

  2. 2. Interleukin-6 as a mediator of insulin resistance

    Author : Victoria Rotter Sopasakis; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : A potential role of interleukin (IL)-6 for the metabolic abnormalities seen in obesity and insulinresistance was postulated when it was discovered that circulating IL-6 levels were elevated in obeseand insulin-resistant as well as type 2 diabetic individuals. Later it was shown that the adipose tissuewas a major site of IL-6 production, accounting for 15-35% of the total circulating levels. READ MORE

  3. 3. Insulin-like Growth Factor-I (IGF-I) and Interleukin-6 (IL-6) regulate body fat

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Kristina Wallenius; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obesity; insulin-like growth factor I IGF-I ; interleukin-6 IL-6 ; growth hormone GH ; GH releasing factor GHRF ; GH secretagogue GHS ; receptor; leptin; insulin; glucose; intracerebroventricular ICV ; dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry DXA ; indirect calorimetry.;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the role of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the regulation of metabolism and body fat mass. Circulating IGF-I is mainly liver derived, while a large part of circulating IL-6 is produced by adipose tissue. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Role of Interleukin-6 in the Febrile Response

  5. 5. Cytokines and lipids in pregnancy – effects on developmental programming and placental nutrient transfer

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Susanne Lager; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2010]

    Abstract : Metabolic disturbances, in particular those associated with nutritional challenges, that take place during development, both in utero and early postnatal life, have long-lasting health consequences on an individual. The most pronounced evidence of these challenges is a deviation in birth weight. READ MORE
