  1. 11. Role of Neutrophils and Innate Immune Mechanisms in Urinary Tract Infections

    Author : Björn Frendéus; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; bacteriology; Microbiology; Mucosal immunology; Infection Resistance; Neutrophils; Toll-like receptors; Urinary Tract Infections; Chemokine receptors; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are among the most common infections in man. Despite their prevalence, information on the molecular mechanisms defects that explain the increased susceptibility to disease are lacking. READ MORE

  2. 12. Liver transplantation in man. Gastrointestinal perfusion and inflammatory response

    Author : Ebbe Rønholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carbondioxide; complement activation; cytokines; endotoxaemia; hydrogen-ion concentration; liver transplantation; laser-Doppler flowmetry; PMN elastase; regional blood flow; reperfusion;

    Abstract : Patients undergoing liver transplantation develop a systemic inflammatory response which eventually continues with development of a multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). Gastro-intestinal hypoxia or bacterial translocation has been proposed as the "motor" of MODS. READ MORE

  3. 13. Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Neoplasms Grade 3 : Biological and Clinical Aspects

    Author : Abir Salwa Ali; Malin Grönberg; Christoffer Juhlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate biological and clinical aspects of G3 gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (G3 GEP-NENs).In our first study, the expression of the tumor suppressor p53 was investigated. In a cohort of G3 GEP-NENs we found the expression of p53 protein to be present in 39% of 124 cases. READ MORE

  4. 14. Focal atrial tachycardia : Insights concerning the arrhythmogenic substrate based on analysis of intracardiac electrograms and inflammatory markers

    Author : Ioan Liuba; Gerhard Hindricks; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Background: Focal atrial tachycardias are tachycardias characterized by a radial spread of activation from a discrete area of the atrial myocardium. They account for 10-15% of supraventricular tachycardias and are generally poorly responsive to pharmacological treatment. The pathophysiologic substrate of these arrhythmias remains poorly understood. READ MORE

  5. 15. Influence of bone-associated and cardiovascular biomarkers on vascular events and mortality in relation to renal dysfunction

    Abstract : Biomarkers can help physicians identify subjects with an increased cardiovascular risk. Apart from the clinical factors, some biomarkers have been recognized as important predictors and risk factors for cardiovascular disease in renal disease. READ MORE
