  1. 1. Submicrometre aerosol emissions from sea spray and road traffic

    Author : Monica Mårtensson; Douglas Nilsson; Christer Johansson; Michael Smith; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Eddy covariance method; aerosol emissions; submicrometre sea salt parameterisation; primary marine organic aerosols; sea spray; road traffic emission factors; air-sea exchange; aerosol dynamics model; internal aerosol mixing; combustion aerosols; Atmosphere and hydrosphere sciences; Atmosfärs- och hydrosfärsvetenskap; atmosfärvetenskap; Atmospheric Sciences;

    Abstract : The uncertainty of the climate and health effects of aerosols is still large, one important reason being lack of knowledge of the primary emissions. This thesis combines laboratory and field experiments, and process modelling in an effort to better quantify the submicrometre aerosol emissions and to understand some of the processes in the atmosphere. 2. 2. Physical properties and processes of secondary organic aerosol and its constituents

    Author : Kent Salo; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SOA; ageing; VOC; atmosphere; volatility; VTDMA; monoterpenes; ageing;

    Abstract : Atmospheric aerosol particles are involved in several important processes including the formation of clouds and precipitation. A considerable fraction of the ambient aerosol mass consists of organic compounds of both primary and secondary origin. READ MORE

  3. 3. Insights into key processes governing atmospheric aerosol loadings and their interactions with clouds

    Author : Emelie Linnéa Graham; Ilona Riipinen; Claudia Mohr; Paul Zieger; Annica M. L. Ekman; Marianne Glasius; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Aerosol particles are ubiquitous in the atmosphere and an essential part of the atmospheric radiation balance regulating the Earth’s temperature. Aerosol-cloud interaction still remains the largest single uncertainty in future climate projections. In addition, aerosols are also responsible for air pollution, causing severe health effects. 4. 4. Hygroscopic Properties of Aerosols from Open-Air Burning and Controlled Combustion of Biomass

    Author : Jenny Rissler; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cloud condensation nuclei; H-TDMA; CCN; hygroscopic growth; Teknik; internal and external mixture; CLAIRE; SMOCC; Physics; Fysik; Environmental chemistry; Technological sciences; Miljökemi; tandem differential mobility analyzer; slash and burn; Amazon; Biomass burning; combustion; Fysicumarkivet A:2005:Rissler;

    Abstract : The major uncertainty in predicting the influence of human activities on global climate change is the effect of aerosols. Two physical properties of aerosols largely controlling their influence on climate are the particle number size distribution and the interaction of the particles with the surrounding water vapor.
