1. Poled fiber devices
Abstract : The topic of this thesis is the development of devices for telecom applications based on poled optical fibers. The focus is on a specific function, optical switching/modulation. Some of the most important results are summarized below. Optical switching at telecom wavelengths (1. READ MORE

2. Internal fixation of femoral neck fractures
Abstract : The incidence of femoral neck fractures in elderly people is rising requiring large health care resources. Internal fixation of the fracture is the treatment of choice in Scandinavia, but in 20-40% of the cases a late complication such as a segmental collapse of the femoral head after initial bone necrosis, or a non-union of the fracture because of non-healing, will occur. 3. Fast dynamics and measurements of single-charge devices
Abstract : In this thesis we present measurements on several different devices, including the single-Cooper-pair box (SCB), the single-electron box, tunable superconducting resonators and so called transmon qubits.By exploiting the quantum capacitance of the SCB, its state was measured by embedding the box in a radio-frequency resonator. 4. Nanowire devices for X-ray detection
Abstract : High spatial resolution X-ray microscopy has become a dedicated tool to study nanocrystals and nanostructure devices in recent years. In general, the spatial resolution of X-ray microscopy depends on the spot size of the X-ray beam and the pixel size of X-ray detectors. READ MORE

5. Optical Modeling and Characterization of Layers and Multilayer Structures : Organic Optoelectronic Devices and Spectroscopic Ellipsometry
Abstract : This dissertation is on the subject of modeling and characterization of layers and multilayer structures with respect to their optical properties and characteristics. A number of different systems have been investigated; among them multilayer structures in the form of organic optoelectronic devices, anisotropic layers of conjugated polymers as well as inhomogeneous layers of porous silicon and oxidized silver.
