  1. 21. Mechanical considerations in the design of high-precision surface micromachined devices

    Author : Staffan Greek; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; materialvetenskap; Materials Science;

    Abstract : Many mechanical properties of surface micromachined devices, such as strength and elastic properties, depend on the manufacturing process and are therefore unique to the device. In order to achieve higher precision, it is essential that correct mechanical characteristics are used in the work of designing devices. READ MORE

  2. 22. Synthesis and characterization of vertically aligned carbon nanofibers for nanoscale devices

    Author : Farzan Alavian Ghavanini; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Nanoelectromechanical systems NEMS ; Plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition PECVD ; Vertically aligned carbon nanofibers VACNF ;

    Abstract : The synthesis of vertically aligned carbon nanofibers (VACNFs) by direct current plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (dc PECVD) has presented a unique opportunity to realize nanoscale three-dimensional devices at a reasonable cost. The determinism offered by the synthesis process in terms of control over the spatial and the geometrical properties of the resulting nanofibers provides a powerful tool to implement a wide range of applications from nanoelectromechanical systems to biological devices. 3. 23. Optical devices and methods for distributed lab-on-a-chip analyses

    Author : Pakorn Preechaburana; Daniel Filippini; Ingemar Lundström; Readislav Potyrailo; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Lab-on-a-chip (LOC) technologies entail the miniaturization of analytical systems, and the reduction of required sample and reagent volumes. LOC devices offer compact alternatives to classical instrumentation while delivering comparable performance and disposable formats. READ MORE

  4. 24. Technology and properties of InP-based photonic crystal structures and devices

    Author : Naeem Shahid; Srinivasan Anand; Rob W. vad der Heijden; KTH; []
    Keywords : Integrated optics materials; Photonic crystals; Planar waveguides; Dispersion; Band-gap; Mode-gap; mini-stopband; InP; Nanostructure fabrication; dry etching; mass transport; material reflow; reliability; SRA - ICT; SRA - Informations- och kommunikationsteknik;

    Abstract : Photonic crystals (PhCs) are periodic dielectric structures that exhibit a photonic band gap; a range of wavelengths for which light propagation is forbidden. 2D PhCs exhibit most of the properties as their three dimension counterparts with a compatibility with standard semiconductor processing techniques such as epitaxial growth, electron beam lithography, Plasma deposition/etching and electromechanical lapping/polishing. 5. 25. Ion Beam Analysis of First Wall Materials Exposed to Plasma in Fusion Devices

    Author : Per Petersson; Göran Possnert; Anders Hallén; Marek Rubel; Eduardo C. Alves; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ion beam analysis; Microbeam; Plasma wall interaction; Deuterium; Beryllium; Carbon fibre composites; Divertor; Nuclear reaction analysis; Helium-3; Plasma physics with fusion; Plasmafysik med fusion; Ion Physics; Jonfysik;

    Abstract : One major step needed for fusion to become a reliable energy source is the development of materials for the extreme conditions (high temperature, radioactivity and erosion) caused by hot plasmas. The main goal of the present study is to use and optimise ion beam methods (lateral resolution and sensitivity) to characterise the distribution of hydrogen isotopes that act as fuel. READ MORE
