  2. 2. Cardiovascular disease and adrenergic dysfunction in mild primary hyperparathyroidism

    University dissertation from Cardiology, Dept of Clinical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine

    Author : Mats Birgander; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Primary Hyperparathyroidism; parathyroidectomy; parathyroid hormone; cardiovascular disease; mortality.;

    Abstract : Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is associated with cardiovascular morbidity and premature death, but the underlying mechanisms are incompletely understood. The aim of this thesis was to investigate cardiovascular parameters and adrenergic function in mild PHPT compared to healthy controls subjects before and after curative parathyroidectomy (PTX). Abstract : Dietary fat quality influences the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. A low-grade inflammation is suggested to contribute to the disease development, often accompanied by obesity. Whereas n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) have been considered anti-inflammatory, n-6 PUFA have been proposed to act pro-inflammatory. READ MORE

  4. 4. Obstructive sleep apnea and cardiovascular morbidity

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Yüksel Peker; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstructive sleep apnea; cardiovascular; hypertension; coronary artery disease; hospitalization; cost utility; morbidity; mortality; secondary prevention; angiotensin II; CPAP;

    Abstract : Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects 24 % of middle-aged men and 9 % of women in USA but the treatment criterion, daytime sleepiness is reported by 17 and 22 % of these subjects, respectively. Some previous studies have suggested an association between OSA and cardiovascular disease (CVD), but the conclusions have been conflicting due to co-existing traditionally recognized risk factors.
