  1. 1. Swelling and Mechanical Properties of Polymer Gels: Salt, Macroion and Network Topology Effects

    Author : Samuel Edgecombe; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; volume decrease upon uniaxial extension; interpenetrating networks; loose-end effects; polydispersity effects; macroion deswelling; salt deswelling; polymer gels; polyelectrolyte gels; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The work in this thesis concerns polymer gels, especially their swelling and mechanical properties modelled using a coarse-grained model of polyelectrolytes. The method used to study polymer gels was molecular simulation utilising the simulation package MOLSIM. READ MORE

  2. 2. Integration of Electrospun Materials in Microelectronic and Biomedical Applications

    Author : Björn Carlberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : Lignocellulosic biomass is believed to serve a prominent role in tomorrow’s sustainable energy and material development. Among the polysaccharide fractions of lignocellulosic biomass, the potential of hemicelluloses as a valuable material resource is increasingly recognized. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mechanical and swelling properties of hydrogels

    Author : Ting Yang; Anders Hult; Michael Malkoch; Jöns Hilborn; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Hydrogels have been used as one of the novel soft materials in many biomedical applications such as drug delivery and tissue engineering for recent decades.In the main part of this work, bi-functional poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) precursors with either thiols (PEG-SH) or allyls (PEG-Al) , covering molecular weights from 3 kDa to 8 kDa were synthesized and thoroughly characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-Raman and MALDI-TOF techniques. Abstract : Due to climate change and plastic pollution, there is an increasing demand for bio-based materials with similar properties to those of common plastics yet biodegradable. In this respect, cellulose is a strong candidate that is already being refined on a large industrial scale, but the properties differ significantly from those of common plastics in terms of shapeability and water-resilience.
