  1. 1. Photodynamic Therapy utilizing Interstitial Light Delivery Combined with Spectroscopic Methods

    Author : Marcelo Soto Thompson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; fiber optics; dosimetry; spectroscopy; tissue optics; laser-induced fluorescence; medical laser systems; Laserteknik; cancer; photodynamic therapy; interstitial; Laser technology; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Soto Thompson;

    Abstract : Since cancer continues to plague humanity there is large need for development of modalities for both diagnosis and therapy. Most of the currently available methods suffer from serious disadvantages. The treatments, e.g. READ MORE

  2. 2. Spectroscopic techniques for photodynamic therapy dosimetry

    Author : Ann Johansson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic and molecular physics; diffuse light spectroscopy; photodynamic therapy; biomedical optics; Atom- och molekylärfysik;

    Abstract : Photodynamic therapy (PDT) as a cancer treatment modality relies on the simultaneous presence of three components; light, photosensitiser and oxygen. Once excited by the light, the photosensitiser can interact with oxygen, leading to the formation of toxic oxygen species. READ MORE

  3. 3. Methods, Instrumentation and Mechanisms for Optical Characterization of Tissue and Treatment of Malignant Tumours

    Author : Sara Pålsson; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; temperature; perfusion; PDT; photodynamic therapy; mechanisms; tissue characterization; instrumentation; optical biopsy; fluorescence spectroscopy; spectroscopy techniques; Raman spectroscopy; interstitial photodynamic therapy; photodynamic threshold dose; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylärfysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, different optical methods utilising visible light for characterization of tissue have been developed and evaluated. The feasibility of many of these methods has been demonstrated in the laboratory or in animal experiments. READ MORE

  4. 4. Laser diode systems for photodynamic therapy and medical diagnostics

    Author : Eva Samsöe Andersen; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quasi-phasematching; photodynamic therapy; laser-induced fluorescence; medical laser systems.; Histology; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; Laserteknik; Laser technology; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur; Diagnostik; Diagnostics; second harmonic generation; pulsed lasers; spatial filtering; Diode lasers; optical feedback; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Samsöe Andersen;

    Abstract : This work concerns techniques for improvement of the coherence properties of diode lasers so that they may be used in two specific medical applications: (Interstitial) photodynamic therapy (PDT) and laser-induced fluorescence diagnostics. In the first application, spatial coherence is crucial, since the treatment light should be delivered through relatively thin optical fibers to optimize treatment and to facilitate minimally invasive treatment.
