16. Neuronal networks involved in low back pain; experimental studies
Abstract : Low back pain is a common cause of disability, with a lifetime prevalence of up to 80%. A lumbar disc herniation, involving a bulging disc and/or leakage of the intervertebral disc’s nucleus pulposus, may be a possible cause of back and sciatic pain. Low back pain has also been associated with dysfunctional control of the paraspinal muscles. READ MORE

17. On lumbar spine stabilization
Abstract : 71 consecutive posterolateral lumbar fusions without decompression or internal fixation were evaluated with a mean follow-up time of 3.5 (2-7) years. The diagnoses were spondylolysis-olisthesis in 43 cases, degenerative disc disease and/or facet joint arthrosis in 16 cases and pain post laminectomy/ decompression in 12 cases. READ MORE

18. On lumbar disc herniation : aspects of outcome after surgical treatment
Abstract : Knowledge about sciatica has grown immensely since the days of Hippocrates. Even so one must be impressed with the anatomical insights of those ancient times. Today we are able to describe at a molecular level how the intervertebral disc degenerates and how a herniation is evolved and its physical consequences for the patient. READ MORE

19. Surgery versus nonsurgical treatment of cervical radiculopathy. Randomized studies of anterior cervical decompression and fusion followed by physiotherapy versus structured physiotherapy alone
Abstract : Background and aims: Cervical radiculopathy (CR) is a symptom complex comprising neck pain and radiating arm pain due to compression of one or more cervical nerve roots, caused by spondylotic narrowing of the intervertebral foramina, intervertebral disc herniation or both. Anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF) is a common surgical procedure to treat CR, but the evidence supporting use of this method versus nonsurgical treatment is scarce. READ MORE

20. The post-operative lumbar spine : a radiological investigation of the lumbar spine after discectomy using MR imaging and CT
Abstract : Problems and aims: The clinical outcome of repeat lumbar discectomy is not as satisfactory as that of the primary surgical procedure. One reason is the difficulty of assessing post operative radiological investigations and particularly the significance of the various radiological changes. READ MORE
