  1. 16. Development of the gastrointestinal tract in young mammals : Effects of enteral provocation with protease or phytohaemagglutinin in neonatal rats

    Author : Ester Arevalo Sureda; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : gut; Intestine; Pancreas; development; precocious; protease; PHA; enterocytes; permeability; endocytosis; IgG; FcRn; Blimp1; T-lymphocyte; passive immunity; altricial; neonatal; suckling; athymic; rat; immunohistochemistry IHC ;

    Abstract : The rat, as an altritial species, is born with an immature gastrointestinal tract and intestinal barrier function, which is highly absorptive to milk-borne bioactive molecules that can pass undigested and reach the general circulation of the suckling newborn. This passage occurs by the neonatal-Fc-receptor (FcRn) binding and trancytosis of immunoglobulin G in the proximal small intestine (SI) and by the highly endocytic vacuolated enterocytes non-selectively in the distal SI. 2. 17. Monocytes and macrophages, with a focus of Crohn's disease

    Author : Susanne Thiesen; Internmedicin - epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Crohn s disease; Cystatin C; Cytokines; Intestine; Macrophages; Monocytes; Gene-expression;

    Abstract : Monocytes and macrophages are part of the body’s first line of defense, eliminating pathogens by phagocytosis or by releasing a broad array of inflammatory mediators, such as cytokines, chemokines and proteases. In humans, three subsets of monocytes are described with seemingly different functions. READ MORE

  3. 18. The MUC2 mucin -A network in the intestinal protective mucus

    Author : Malin E V Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : mucus; Muc2; trimer; proteomics; intestine; colitis; DSS;

    Abstract : The intestine is covered by mucus that is the first line of defence of the epithelium. The main structural component of the intestinal mucus is the MUC2 mucin. This is a large glycoprotein with two long and heavily O-glycosylated mucin domains. READ MORE

  4. 19. The intestinal epithelium of salmonids : transepithelial transport, barrier function and bacterial interactions

    Abstract : The salmonid intestinal epithelium is important for growth and health of the fish. The epithelium is exposed to a multitude of internal and external factors that can influence its function. READ MORE
