1. Non-invasive diagnostic methods of intracranial arteries
Abstract : Aims of this thesis were to compare the agreement of different magnetic resonance angiography(MRA) techniques and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) in follow-up of intracranial aneurysms treated with coils in order to select the best MRA method, to evaluate the impact of increased iodine concentration in contrast medium and decreased tube voltage on arterial attenuation and image quality in computed tomography angiography (CTA) of intracranial arteries, and finally to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of CTA in non-traumatic subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) compared to DSA and to assess the arterial attenuation (HU) as an image quality factor in this aspect. Follow-up DSA and time-of-flight (TOF) MRA at 1. READ MORE

2. Impact on life after intracranial aneurysm rupture : health-related quality of life and epidemiologic outcomes
Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe impact on life up to ten years after intracranial aneurysm rupture in terms of health-related quality of life, changes in everyday life and descriptive epidemiology with the intention to contribute to an increased understanding of the long-term perceived consequences of that impact.Study I aimed to describe changes and transitions in everyday life during the first two years following an intracranial aneurysm rupture. 3. Results and complications of endovascular neurointerventions in intracranial aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations, evaluated by conventional angiography and diffusion-perfusion MRI
Abstract : Aims - To describe and evaluate the efficacy and safety of intra-arterial fibrinolysis and the clinical outcome in SAH patients with thromboembolic complications during endovascular coiling of a ruptured aneurysm. (Paper I) - To describe the use and feasibility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), especially diffusion and perfusion imaging, in three patients treated endovascularly for various cerebrovascular disorders. 4. Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in the Elderly
Abstract : Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a disease with high risk of mortality and morbidity. Elderly patients have an even higher risk of poor outcome. The incidence of SAH increases with age and the elderly constitute a substantial and increasing proportion of the population. Thus, the management of elderly SAH patients is an imminent clinical challenge. READ MORE

5. Monitoring of extracellular substances after spontaneous and experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage
Abstract : Even though survival is considerably enhanced after surgical treatment of an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), there is a critical period, which keeps the patient in intensive care for days or even weeks. Complications, such as vasospasm, ischemia and brain edema ultimately lead to further brain damage. READ MORE
