  1. 16. Neonatal complications following birth by vacuum extraction

    Author : Katarina Åberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Vacuum extraction is a common method of delivery presently accounting for approximately 7 percent of all deliveries in Sweden. It is considered an important and safe obstetric procedure, although both maternal and neonatal complications exist. READ MORE

  2. 17. Management of hemorrhagic complications associated with antithrombotic therapy

    Author : Ammar Majeed; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Anticoagulants are used for the prevention and treatment of arterial and venous thromboembolism. Such therapy is always associated with an increased risk of bleeding. Intracranial hemorrhage is the most serious form of anticoagulantsrelated bleeding and caries a high mortality rate. READ MORE

  3. 18. Large cerebral artery occlusion and recanalisation in stroke patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis : clinical and radiological markers and their clinical relevance

    Author : Tatiana Kharitonova; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Large cerebral artery occlusion accounts for 40-46% of ischemic strokes. These strokes are characterized by extensive neurological deficit, poor functional outcome, and increased mortality (up to 40-80% in the most severe clinical syndromes). READ MORE

  4. 19. Proton Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy in Brain Tumors - Clinical Applications

    Author : Isabella Björkman-Burtscher; Lund Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiology; Clinical physics; Localization; Abscess; Brain; Tumor; Spectroscopy; Magnetic Resonance; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Abstract : Aims: · to present a test phantom and test method for evaluation of proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) single volume localization techniques regarding signal contamination; · to describe the introduction of 1H-MRS in the daily routine of a standard MR-unit; · to evaluate the possibilities offered by 1H-MRS to improve preoperative diagnostic accuracy in patients scheduled for stereotactic biopsy of intracranial mass lesions; · to evaluate the possibilities offered by 1H-MRS to improve diagnostics and therapy control in patients with brain abscesses; · to test the hypothesis that 1H-MRS might be useful for differentiation of brain tumors, based on metabolic changes in tissue across brain lesions or surrounding tissue. Results and conclusions: · The test phantom and test method allow quality assessment with good reproducibility. READ MORE

  5. 20. Fetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia : immunological mechanisms and clinical consequences

    Author : Erle Refsum; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Fetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (FNAIT) is a rare condition that may occur in connection with pregnancy, when maternal antibodies directed against paternally inherited platelet antigens cross the placenta and mediate thrombocytopenia in the fetus and neonate. FNAIT puts the fetus at risk of severe bleedings, with an intracranial hemorrhage being the most feared outcome. READ MORE
