  1. 1. Human intraepithelial lymphocytes : a comparative study of phenotype, morphology, and functional properties of intraepithelial lymphocytes in gut and oral mucosa

    Author : Carina Lundqvist; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Sten Hammarström; Per Brandtzaeg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human intraepithelial lymphocytes; alimentary tract; intestinal epithelium; gut luminal antigens; gingiva; γδ T cells; immunoelectron microscopy; cytokine mRNA; RT-PCR; extrathymic T cell maturation; RAG-1; periodontitis; mucosal immune system; CD4-CD8- αβ T cells; CD8 γδ T cells;

    Abstract : Human intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL) constitute a unique cell population situated in the first line of defense of the alimentary tract. Here they are continuously exposed to a massive antigenic load of high complexity. However, different conditions prevail along the alimentary tract. READ MORE

  2. 2. Butyrophilin- and Butyrophilin-like genes and their role in epithelial cell-intraepithelial T lymphocyte cross-talk

    Author : Cristina Lebrero-Fernandez; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Butyrophilin-like Btnl ; Butyrophilin Btn ; Intraepithelial lymphocytes IELs ; Mucosal immunity; Intestinal epithelial cells; γδ T cells; Intestinal inflammation; Colon cancer; Ulcerative colitis;

    Abstract : More than 50% of our immune system is located in the gut. The intestinal epithelium, which forms an interface between the organism and the environment, harbors intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) that comprise a mixture of conventional αβ T cells and unconventional αβ- and γδ T cells. 3. 3. Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia in migrant women living with HIV

    Author : Christina Carlander; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to study high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) in women living with HIV (WLWH) in Sweden compared with HIV-negative women (HNW) of the same region of birth. In Paper I we assessed the cumulative incidence (CuI) and hazard ratio (HR) of CIN3, adenocarcinoma, and invasive cervical cancer (CIN3+) in a cohort of WLWH (n = 893) and HNW (n = 205 842) by linking the Swedish national HIV registry (InfCare HIV) with the Swedish Population Registry (SPR) and the Swedish National Cervical Screening Registry (NKCx). 4. 4. Adaptive immune response in the intestinal mucosa of microscopic colitis patients

    Author : Ashok Kumar Kumawat; Elisabeth Hultgren-Hörnquist; Johan Bohr; Curt Tysk; Allan Sirsjö; Samuel Lundin; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microscopic colitis; collagenous colitis; lymphocytic colitis; intraepithelial lymphocytes; lamina propria lymphocytes; T cell receptor excision circle; T helper cells; cytotoxic T lymphocyte and mucosal cytokines; Biomedicin; Biomedicine;

    Abstract : Microscopic colitis (MC) is a chronic diarrhoeal disease of unknown aetiology, comprising collagenous colitis (CC) and lymphocytic colitis (LC). The nature of the adaptive local immune responses in the mucosa of MC patients is however far from elucidated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Penile Intraepithelial Neoplasia and Penile Cancer. Risk Factors and Treatment

    Author : Sinja Kristiansen; Dermatologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Penile intrapithelial neoplasia; PeIN; penile cancer; risk factors; HPV; incidence; histopathology;

    Abstract : AbstractPenile cancer and its precursor, penile intraepithelial neoplasia (PeIN), are rare malignancies. Data on risk factors, incidence, and treatment of PeIN is scarce. The prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) varies substantially between studies of penile cancer. READ MORE
