  1. 6. Plasmonics with a Twist: from Single Particles to Metasurfaces

    Author : Robin Ogier; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; colloidal lithography; localized surface plasmons; circularly polarized light; metsurfaces; nanofabrication; chirality; optical trapping;

    Abstract : Nanophotonics deals with how electromagnetic fields can be confined and squeezed to orders of dimensions below the light wavelength. Plasmonics, one of the fields of nanophotonics, study collective free electron oscillations driven by light in metallic nanostructures and interfaces. READ MORE

  2. 7. Principal Word Vectors

    Author : Ali Basirat; Joakim Nivre; Hinrich Schütze; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; word; context; word embedding; principal component analysis; PCA; sparse matrix; singular value decomposition; SVD; entropy;

    Abstract : Word embedding is a technique for associating the words of a language with real-valued vectors, enabling us to use algebraic methods to reason about their semantic and grammatical properties. This thesis introduces a word embedding method called principal word embedding, which makes use of principal component analysis (PCA) to train a set of word embeddings for words of a language. 3. 8. Stromal and tumor cell responses to hypoxia and treatment within the glioma microenvironment

    Author : Vasiliki Pantazopoulou; Avdelningen för translationell cancerforskning; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer; glioblastoma; tumor microenvironment; reactive astrocytes; hypoxia; CD44; p75NTR;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma is the most aggressive primary brain tumor in adults. Despite treatment, tumors invariably recur, and the recurring tumor is resistant to therapies. New approaches are needed for the successful treatment of glioblastoma patients.Tumors are not simply a compilation of molecularly and phenotypically identical neoplastic cells. READ MORE

  4. 9. Multiple primary malignancies in breast cancer patients. From population study to genetics

    Author : Jenny Nyqvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breast cancer; multiple primary malignancies; genetic alterations;

    Abstract : Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common causes of cancer-related death among women worldwide. Due to early detection of BC and more tailor-made treatments, patients live longer despite their illness. Studies have shown that BC patients are at risk of developing new tumors in organs other than the breast, mainly caused by BC treatment. READ MORE

  5. 10. Magnetization Dynamics in Ferromagnetic Thin Films : Evaluation of Different Contributions to Damping in Co2FeAl and FeCo Film Structures

    Author : Serkan Akansel; Peter Svedlindh; Olof Karis; Erik Wahlström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spintronics; Gilbert damping parameter; magnetization dynamics; ferromagnetic resonance; Heusler alloys; magnetic thin films; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : Static and dynamic magnetic properties of Co2FeAl and Fe65Co35 alloys have been investigated. Co2FeAl films were deposited at different temperatures and the deposition parameters were optimized with respect to structural and magnetic properties. As a result, a film with B2 crystalline phase was obtained without any post-annealing process. READ MORE
