  1. 1. Genome Evolution of Neurospora tetrasperma

    Author : Yu Sun; Hanna Johannesson; Siv Andersson; Toni Gabaldon; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neurospora tetrasperma; next-generation sequencing; introgression; intron; chromosomal inversion; codon usage; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Abstract : In this thesis work, I have used a comparative genomics approach to study a fungal model organism, Neurospora tetrasperma. My specific focus has been on genomic introgression, intron evolution, chromosomal structural rearrangements and codon usage. READ MORE

  2. 2. Biological Markers of Fertility

    Author : Sarah Nordqvist; Helena Åkerud; Karin Kårehed; Agneta Skoog Svanberg; Anneli Stavreus-Evers; Geraldine Hartshorne; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; angiogenesis; embryogenesis; female reproductive tract; fertility; fertilization; Histidine-rich glycoprotein; intron; in vitro fertilization; oocyte; ovarian response; pregnancy; single nucleotide polymorphism; Src homology 2 domain-containing adapter protein B;

    Abstract : Infertility affects 15 % of couples, which corresponds to 60 - 80 million worldwide. The microenvironments in which the oocyte, embryo and fetus mature are vital to the establishment and development of a healthy pregnancy. READ MORE

  3. 3. The tRNALeu (UAA) Intron of Cyanobacteria : Towards Understanding a Genetic Marker

    Author : José Luis Costa; Peter Lindblad; Paulsrud Per; Sandra Nierzwicki-Bauer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : The tRNALeu (UAA) intron has been recorded in the plastid genome of many algae and land plants and was the first intron to be discovered in cyanobacteria. In all known cases it interrupts the tRNALeu anticodon loop at a conserved position (U-intron-AA). READ MORE

  4. 4. Genetic and functional studies of hereditary myopathy with lactic acidosis

    Author : Angelica Nordin; Monica Holmberg; Anders Oldfors; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hereditary myopathy with lactic acidosis; ISCU; intron mutation; mouse model; tissue-specific splicing; medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Abstract : Hereditary myopathy with lactic acidosis (HML, OMIM#255125) is an autosomal recessive disorder which originates from Västerbotten and Ångermanland in the Northern part of Sweden. HML is characterized by severe exercise intolerance which manifests with tachycardia, dyspnea, muscle pain, cramps, elevated lactate and pyruvate levels, weakness and myoglobinuria. READ MORE

  5. 5. Structure and function studies on nrdB group I intron from bacteriophage T4

    Author : Ann-Sofie Sjögren; Gerhart Wagner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology; molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The nrdB gene of bacteriophage T4 contains a group I intron which is autocatalytic in water solutions containing salts. The group I intron self-splicing reaction consists of two consecutive transesterfication steps. The first step is the attack of an external guanosine on phosphor at the 5'-splice site. READ MORE
