11. Identification and characterization of a novel cartilage gene product CILP, which is an early indicator of osteoarthritis
Abstract : The aim of this work was to study alterations in the matrix composition of human articular cartilage in different stages of osteoarthritis and to isolate and characterize one of the proteins that is altered in the osteoarthritic process. The metabolism of articular cartilage in different stages of osteoarthritis including early asymptomatic OA was monitored in a culture system of metabolically labeled cartilage explants. READ MORE

12. Splice site selection in Saccharomyces cerevisiae pre-mRNA splicing
Abstract : Pre-mRNA splicing is the process by which intervening sequences (introns) are removed from the coding sequences (exons) resulting in a mature messenger-RNA (mRNA). Splicing takes place in a large ribonucleoprotein complex termed the spliceosome, composed of several protein components and the five small nuclear RNAs (snRNAs) U I, U2, U4, U5 and U6. READ MORE

13. Evolution of acetylcholine receptors and study of the anatomy of the mouse brain reward system
Abstract : This thesis work is divided in two parts. In the first part, I make use of the transgenic TRPV1-Cre mouse line as a tool to investigate the midbrain ventral tegmental area (VTA). READ MORE

14. Mechanism Studies of Catalytic RNA, and RNA and DNA Model Compounds
Abstract : This thesis describes mechanism studies of transesterifications of phosphate esters. The aim of the studies concerns two fields. First, the catalytic mechanism that group I introns use in self-splicing. The focus was on metal ion coordinating groups at the catalytic site. READ MORE

15. Human insulin-like growth factor binding protein-4 and -6 : gene structure and transcription regulation
Abstract : Insulin-like growth factors (IGF-I and IGF-II) are among the more abundant growth factors isolated from bone tissue and are synthesized by various bone cells including osteoblasts. The activity of IGFs is controlled by a family of binding proteins (IGFBPs) divided into subfamilies depending on their individual affinity for IGFs. READ MORE
