  1. 1. Invasive treatment of coronary artery disease : Aspects on antithrombotic and percutaneous treatment options

    Author : Per Grimfjärd; Stefan James; Christoph Varenhorst; P Hedberg; Lene Holmvang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : PCI; STEMI; stent thrombosis; bivalirudin; heparin; bioresorbable scaffold; cangrelor; drug eluting stent; DES; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : The outcome after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has improved considerably thanks to more effective antithrombotic treatment strategies and improved coronary stents. Stent thrombosis (ST) is a rare complication to PCI associated with considerable mortality and morbidity. READ MORE

  2. 2. Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Optimization : Comparison and Evaluation of Non-invasive Methods

    Author : Elena Sciaraffia; Carina Blomström Lundqvist; Giuseppe Boriani; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiac resynchronization therapy; device optimization; left ventricular contractility; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : The general purpose of this thesis was to investigate new cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) optimization techniques and to assess their reliability when compared to invasive measurements of left ventricular contractility (LV dP/dtmax).We first assessed whether cardiac output (CO) measured by trans-thoracic impedance cardiography could correctly identify the optimal interventricular (VV) pacing interval while using invasive measurements of LV dP/dtmax as reference. 3. 3. Early Invasive Strategy in Unstable Coronary Artery Disease : Outcome in Relation to Risk Stratification

    Author : Erik Diderholm; Lars Grip; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Unstable angina; non-ST elevation myocardial infarction; risk stratification; coronary angiography; revascularisation; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; kardiologi; Cardiology;

    Abstract : In unstable coronary artery disease (CAD) it still is a matter of debate which patients should undergo early revascularisation. In the FRISC II study (n=2457) an early invasive strategy was, compared to a primarily non-invasive strategy, associated with reduced mortality and myocardial infarction (MI) rates. READ MORE

  4. 4. Patterns of non-invasive imaging of carotid atherosclerosis

    Author : Pranvera Ibrahimi; Michael Henein; Per Wester; Pompilio Faggiano; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease that can be generalized, affecting more than one arterial bed simultaneously, or localized, manifested in one system. Ultrasound based measurements of plaque textural features, such as low grey scale median (GSM), echolucent (hypoechoic) plaque types and juxtaluminal black (hypoechoic) area (JBA) are manifestation of potentially unstable lesions. 5. 5. Surgical ablation for the treatment of atrial fibrillation in different patient populations : A study of clinical outcomes including rhythm, quality of life, atrial function and safety

    Author : Louise Bagge; Carina Blomström-Lundqvist; Mårten Rosenqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atrial fibrillation; surgical ablation; quality of life; vagal denervation; ganglionated plexi; left atrial function; epicardial; minimally invasive; left atrial ablation; Cardiology; Kardiologi;

    Abstract : Patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) have markedly reduced quality of life (QoL) and catheter ablation has become a useful tool in the rhythm control therapy. However, because of the poor outcome for patients with persistent AF, new surgical ablation strategies for rhythm control are emerging. READ MORE
