  1. 6. Spatial inference for non-lattice data using Markov Random fields

    Author : Linda Werner Hartman; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with how computationally effective lattice models could be used for inference of data with a continuous spatial index. The fundamental idea is to approximate a Gaussian field with a Gaussian Markov random field (GMRF) on a lattice. READ MORE

  2. 7. Dynamics of curved flames in compressible flows

    Author : Oleg Travnikov; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Influence of flow compressibility on propagation and stability of premixed laminar flames in gaseous combustible mixtures has been investigated. A linear analysis of the intrinsic hydrodynamical instability of a planar flame front has shown that the instability growth rate is very sensitive to the compressibility effects and can increase significantly even for rather small Mach numbers of the flame generated flow. 3. 8. A Broad View on the Interpretation of Electromagnetic Data (VLF, RMT, MT, CSTMT)

    Author : Behrooz Oskooi; Laust Börsting Pedersen; Thorkild Mack Rasmussen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; Airborne; azimuthal anisotropy; CSTMT; distortion; EM; geothermal; Hengill; mineralization; MT; peaker; resolution; RMT; tipper; tensor VLF; VLF; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik;

    Abstract : The resolution power of single Very Low Frequency (VLF) data and multi-frequency Radiomagnetotelluric (RMT) data in delineating conductive structures typical for the sedimentary cover and crystalline basement in Scandinavia is studied with a view to future developments of the technique to increasing the frequency range into the LW radio band. Airborne and ground VLF data are interpreted and correlated with RMT measurements made on the ground to better understand the resolution power of VLF data. READ MORE

  4. 9. Hygroscopic Properties of Atmospheric Aerosol Particles in Various Environments

    Author : Jingchuan Zhou; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tandem differential mobility analyser TDMA ; internal and external mixture; closure study; GDF95; AOE-96; Fysik; Physics; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; ACE-2; CLAIRE98; differential mobility particle sizer DMPS ; atmospheric aerosol particles; hygroscopic growth; Fysicumarkivet A:2001:Zhou;

    Abstract : Atmospheric aerosol particles affect our living environment in many ways. Their effects are influenced by the interaction between the aerosol particles and the ubiquitous water vapour. The number-size distribution is a primary important parameter for aerosol particles and can be measured using the differential mobility particle sizer (DMPS). READ MORE

  5. 10. Analyses and Application of Ambient Seismic Noise in Sweden : Source, Interferometry, Tomography

    Author : Hamzeh Sadeghisorkhani; Ólafur Gudmundsson; Ari Tryggvason; Roland Roberts; Frederik Tilmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Seismic interferometry; Ambient noise; Surface wave; Wave propagation; Inverse theory; Sweden; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Abstract : Ambient seismic noise from generation to its application for determination of sub-surface velocity structures is analyzed using continuous data recordings from the Swedish National Seismic Network (SNSN). The fundamental aim of the thesis is to investigate the applicability of precise velocity measurements from ambient noise data. READ MORE
