1. In vitro studies on the mechanisms of inhibited thyroidal iodide uptake and destructive thyroiditis as adverse effects of amiodarone and interferon-gamma
Abstract : The clinical use of the potent anti-arrhythmic drug amiodarone is limited due to adverse effects e.g. in the thyroid comprising both hypo- and hyperthyroidism. Amiodarone-induced thyroid dysfunction can occur in subjects with normal thyroid glands but also in those with an underlying thyroid abnormality resulting in an aggravation of the condition. 2. SODIUM/IODIDE SYMPORTER-NIS Abundant and Important in Gastric Mucosa
Abstract : ABSTRACT Background: Iodine is essential for development and growth as a constituent in thyroid hormones. Biological mechanisms for iodide uptake and concentration are very important, espe-cially as iodine is a relatively scarce element. READ MORE

3. DNA damage affecting thyroidal iodide transport: an explanation to thyroid stunning
Abstract : 131I is widely used clinically in the treatment of Graves´ disease and differentiated thyroid cancer. However, cellular and molecular effects of 131I irradiation in relation to absorbed dose are poorly documented. READ MORE

4. Contaminant transport in non-uniform streams and streambeds
Abstract : The interplay between hydraulic and chemical processes in streams and adjacent storage zones, e.g. streambed sediments, is of crucial importance for the large-scale transport of released contaminants. This thesis presents a methodology for tracer experiments and the development of mechanistic transport models. READ MORE

5. A Chemical Perspective on the Tellurium Source Term in the Context of Severe Nuclear Power Plant Accidents
Abstract : In the event of a severe nuclear accident, one of the biggest concerns is the release of radioactive nuclides. Typically, the most volatile is likely to be released. One that is considered among the most volatile is tellurium. Additionally, health implications towards the public by tellurium can be by itself or the decay product iodine. READ MORE
