  1. 1. Non-ionic contrast media in acrylic bone cement

    Author : Fred Kjellson; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Material technology; Materiallära; materialteknik; PMMA; Bone cement; particle size; contrast media; radiopacity; iohexol; iodixanol; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; orthopaedics; Surgery; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Abstract : Non-ionic, water-soluble, contrast media, iohexol and/or iodixanol, have been investigated for use in acrylic bone cement aimed for arthroplasty. Bone cement, containing the new particulate contrast media , was investigated for: quasi-static mechanical properties, water uptake properties, release of contrast media from the bone cement, biological responses from particulate bone cement, polymerisation reaction, polymerisation temperature, glass transition temperature, injectability and penetration into human cancellous bone, and radiopacity. 2. 2. Electrophysiological effects of contrast media. Dynamic vectorcardiographic monitoring of patients during coronary angiography

    Author : Agneta Flinck; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dynamic vectorcardiography; electrophysiology; contrast media; cardioangiography; adverse events;

    Abstract : Objective: The aims of this work were to study, by means of dynamic vectorcardiography (VCG), the electrophysiological effects of contrast media (CM) injected into the coronary arteries and to evaluate which VCG variables are most suitable for comparing different CM. We also studied if CM-induced VCG changes differ from those seen after myocardial ischaemia. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optimization of intravenous contrast media at computed tomography

    Author : Anders Svensson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The administration of intravenous contrast media (IV CM) is essential for detecting lesions at most computed tomography (CT) examinations. The overall aim of this thesis is to investigate different aspects of IV CM administration that may affect the quality of the CT examination. READ MORE

  5. 5. Are gadolinium contrast media really less nephrotoxic than iodine agents in radiographic examinations? A comparison in relation to their ability to attenuate x-rays in a pig model

    Author : Barbara Elmståhl; Malmö Diagnostisk radiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Angiography; Computed tomography; toxicity; Contrast media; Glomerular filtration; Gadolinium; Iodine; Kidney failure; Nephrotoxicity.; Medicin människa och djur ; radiology; Clinical physics; Medicine human and vertebrates ; tomography; medical instrumentation; Diagnostik; Diagnostics; medicinsk instrumentering; tomografi; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi;

    Abstract : Purpose: To confront the statement that gadolinium contrast media (Gd-CM) are less nephrotoxic than iodine contrast media (I-CM) when used in x-ray angiographic and computed tomographic (CT) examinations. Methods: I) For CT measurements (mean density in Hounsfield numbers) 20-mL syringes filled with I- and Gd-CM at 0.01, 0.02, 0. READ MORE
