  1. 1. Regenerative medicine of the airway cartilage : a morphological and immunohistochemical study with focus on cricoid cartilage defects treated with BMP-2

    Author : Ion Tcacencu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Larynx; growth factor; wound healing; perichondrium; progenitor cells; osteogenesis; growth plate.;

    Abstract : Background: Cartilage provides flexible support for upper airway. Induction of cartilage healing is required for the success of many surgical interventions in the head and neck that are used as treatments for several diseases, such as subglottic stenosis and tumors of the larynx and thyroid. 2. 2. Detector Development, Source Characterization and Novel Applications of Laser Ion Acceleration

    Author : Lovisa Senje; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laser; Ion; Acceleration; Proton; Water; Sheath; Lifetime; Laser; Ion; Acceleration; Proton; Water; Radiolysis; Sheath; Detector; Fysicumarkivet A:2017:Senje;

    Abstract : The main focus of the work presented in this thesis is on experimental studies oflaser acceleration of protons and other positive ions from solid targets. The topic is explored from three different angles: firstly, the development of diagnostics adapted to the ion pulses, secondly, the characterization of the source of the energetic particles and, finally, the application of laser-accelerated protons for time-resolved radiolysis of glass and water. 3. 3. Transition metal dissolution from Li-ion battery cathodes

    Author : Yonas Tesfamhret; Reza Younesi; Erik J. Berg; Mark Huijben; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lithium-ion battery; Lithium-ion cathode; Transition metal dissolution; Atomic Layer Deposition; Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy; Cathode-electrolyte interaction; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have become reliable electrochemical energy storage systems due to their relative high energy and power density, in comparison to alternative battery chemistries. The energy density of current LIBs is limited by the average operating voltage and capacity of oxide-based cathode materials containing a variety of transition metals (TM). READ MORE

  4. 4. Ion Beam Analysis of First Wall Materials Exposed to Plasma in Fusion Devices

    Author : Per Petersson; Göran Possnert; Anders Hallén; Marek Rubel; Eduardo C. Alves; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ion beam analysis; Microbeam; Plasma wall interaction; Deuterium; Beryllium; Carbon fibre composites; Divertor; Nuclear reaction analysis; Helium-3; Plasma physics with fusion; Plasmafysik med fusion; Ion Physics; Jonfysik;

    Abstract : One major step needed for fusion to become a reliable energy source is the development of materials for the extreme conditions (high temperature, radioactivity and erosion) caused by hot plasmas. The main goal of the present study is to use and optimise ion beam methods (lateral resolution and sensitivity) to characterise the distribution of hydrogen isotopes that act as fuel. READ MORE

  5. 5. Plasma environment of an intermediately active comet : Evolution and dynamics observed by ESA's Rosetta spacecraft at 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko

    Author : Elias Odelstad; Anders Eriksson; Andrew Coates; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : The subject of this thesis is the evolution and dynamics of the plasma environment of a moderately active comet before, during and after its closest approach to the Sun. For over 2 years in 2014-2016, the European Space Agency’s Rosetta spacecraft followed the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko at distances typically between a few tens and a few hundred kilometers from the nucleus, the longest and closest inspection of a comet ever made.
