1. Using Molecular Dynamics Simulations to Explore Critical Property Relationships in Polymer Electrolytes : Polarity, Coordination, Ionic transport, Ion-pairing, and Ion-ion Correlations
Abstract : While ion transport in solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) has been explored for decades, there still remains controversies about its fundamental properties, often correlated with gaps between experimental and computational studies. Using molecular dynamics simulations to understand the complex transport mechanisms and also to fill these gaps is the main goal of this thesis. READ MORE

2. Colonic barrier function in ulcerative colitis - Interactions between ion and mucus secretion
Abstract : Anion and mucus secretions have traditionally been looked upon as two separate parts of the epithelial defense system. The importance of anion secretion has been attributed to its role in creating the driving force for fluid secretion that flushes the epithelium from bacteria, while mucus secretion ensures protection via the mucus layer that forms a physical barrier between the bacteria and the epithelium. 3. Electrochemical Investigation of the Reaction Mechanism in Lithium-Oxygen Batteries
Abstract : Lithium-oxygen batteries, also known as Lithium-air batteries, could possibly revolutionize energy storage as we know. By letting lithium react with ambient oxygen gas very large theoretical energy densities are possible. READ MORE

4. Transport Barriers in Plasmas and Fluids
Abstract : In the present work different mechanisms for generation and suppression of turbulence are studied. The suppression of nonlinearly generated turbulence stabilized by temperature boundary conditions as well as turbulence generated by linear instabilities and suppressed by nonlinearly generated secondary flows are treated. 5. Interaction of water with supplementary cementitious materials: Hydration mechanism, microstructure and moisture transport
Abstract : Supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) offer a sustainable solution to reduce carbon emissions from the production of cement and concrete. This dissertation explores the impact of SCMs and the related additives on the hydration process of cementitious materials, which can affect their microstructure and transport properties. READ MORE
