  1. 6. Ion recombination in liquid ionization chambers : development of an experimental method to quantify general recombination

    Author : Jonas Andersson; Heikki Tölli; Lennart Johansson; Anders Ahnesjö; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; General recombination; initial recombination; liquid ionization chamber; radiation dosimetry; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Abstract : An experimental method (the two-dose-rate method) for the correction of general recombination losses in liquid ionization chambers has been developed and employed in experiments with different liquids and radiation qualities. The method is based on a disassociation of initial and general recombination, since an ionized liquid is simultaneously affected by both of these processes. READ MORE

  2. 7. Synthesis of Carbon-based and Metal-Oxide Thin Films using High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering

    Author : Asim Aijaz; Ulf Helmersson; Kostas Sarakinos; Günter Bräuer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis deals with synthesis of carbon-based as well as metal-oxide thin films using highly ionized plasmas. The principal deposition method employed was high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS). READ MORE

  3. 8. Time-resolved laser spectroscopic studies of atoms, ions and Molecules

    Author : Zhongshan Li; Fysiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:2000:Li;

    Abstract : Time-resolved laser spectroscopy has been performed to study the radiative properties of various microscopic systems. Using Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF) techniques, natural radiative lifetimes have been studied not only in neutral B, S, Ge, Ce, Pb, and in singly ionized V, Fe, Zr, Mo, La, Ce, Eu, Gd and Yb, but also in doubly ionized La, Ce, Pr, Eu, Er, Gd, Tm, Lu, and W. 4. 9. Ultra-intense laser-plasma interaction for applied and fundamental physics

    Author : Arkady Gonoskov; Mattias Marklund; Gert Brodin; Vladimir Tikhonchuk; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ultra-intense laser; femtosecond pulse; plasma; relativistic phenomena; laser-driven acceleration; attosecond pulse generation; radiation reaction; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Rapid progress in ultra-intense laser technology has resulted in intensity levels surpassing 1022 W/cm2, reaching the highest possible density of electromagnetic energy amongst all controlled sources available in the laboratory. During recent decades, fast growth in available intensity has stimulated numerous studies based on the use of high intensity lasers as a unique tool for the initiation of nonlinear behavior in various basic systems: first molecules and atoms, then plasma resulting from the ionization of gases and solids, and, finally, pure vacuum. 5. 10. Atomic Spectroscopy for Applications in Energy Technology

    Author : Thomas Lennartsson; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atomic structure; plasma diagnostics; branching fractions; gas discharges; highly charged ions; extreme ultraviolet spectra; time-resolved spectroscopy;

    Abstract : This thesis intends to provide spectroscopic information which may be of use in the investigation of low-density plasmas. Developed since the 19th century, the spectroscopic approach has proven to be a versatile method for measuring properties in hot gases, such as electron and ion temperatures and densities, the abundance of various elements in the gas, etc. READ MORE
