  1. 1. Biological Pre-filtration and Surface Water Treatment - Microbial barrier function and removal of natural inorganic and organic compounds

    Author : Gerald Heinicke; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Waterworks in Sweden that apply conventional chemical surface water treatment are facing a number of challenges, including changes in raw water quality and demands for improved particle removal. The chief objective of this work was to evaluate biological pre-filtration for typical Swedish surface water, regarding the removal of natural organic matter, particles, iron and manganese, and taste and odour compounds. Abstract : Groundwater, wastewater, surface runoff and surface water samples from Lake Victoria basin, Uganda was assessed for trace metals contamination. Untreated, base-treated and peroxide-treated biosorbents from Albizia coriaria, Coffea canephora, Cyperus papyrus, Erythrina abyssinica and Musa spp were investigated for removal of selected trace metals from contaminated water in batch studies. 3. 3. Dissolved and suspended transport of tungsten, molybdenum, and vanadium in natural waters

    Author : Susanne Bauer; Johan Ingri; Carl-Magnus Mörth; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tungsten; molybdenum; vanadium; Baltic Sea; redox cycling; suspended particles; boreal rivers; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : Some transition metals and metalloids occur primarily as oxyanions in natural waters including antimony, arsenic, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten and vanadium. These oxyanions can pass through cell walls along the same pathways as phosphate or sulfate. Some of these oxyanions are essential for life, but in high concentrations they become all toxic. 4. 4. Artificial recharge of groundwater for public water supply : potential and limitations on boreal conditions

    Author : Cristina Frycklund; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : It is motivated by the intentions of Agenda 21 to findalternatives to the increasing dependence on chemical treatmentin the production of public water. Conventional waterworkscommonly include chemicals for removal of organic compounds,for reduction of corrosiveness and for disinfection. READ MORE
