  1. 1. Degradation Mechanisms of Heat Resistant Steel at Elevated Temperatures : In an Iron Ore Pelletizing Industry

    Author : Erik A. A. Nilsson; Marta-Lena Antti; Ragnar Tegman; Jan-Erik Svensson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; stainless steel; Grate-Kiln; microstructure; corrosion; as-casted; thermal cycling; erosion; deposition; Engineering Materials; Materialteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the different degradation mechanisms of the stainless steel in a travelling grate in a Grate-Kiln iron ore pellet indurator. The travelling grate is a conveyor belt that transports green-body pellets to a rotary kiln while the pellets are being dried and pre-heated to a temperature of 900-1100 °C by recycled hot air. 2. 2. Drying of iron ore pellets : analysis with CFD

    Author : Anna-Lena Ljung; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Iron ore pellets are a highly refined product and for companies such as LKAB it is important to constantly improve the pelletization in order to enhance production and improve product quality. A long term goal has been established to develop and considerably refine tools and techniques with which the drying zone of a pelletizing plant can be optimized. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modelling the aerodynamics of iron ore pelletizing kilns

    Author : Reine Granström; Christian Fredriksson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : In an iron ore pelletizing plant, crude ore is upgraded to pellets to be used as feedstock in steel-making plants. As part of a grate-kiln pelletizing plant, the rotary kiln is an indurating furnace in which the pellets are sintered. READ MORE

  4. 4. Competitive strength in iron ore production

    Author : Stefan Hellmer; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : This thesis is about competitive strength in the global markets for iron ore. Its focus is on the Swedish iron ore producer, LKAB, and its role in this global market. The finding of new vast deposits of iron ore in Brazil and Australia, together with falling transportation costs, meant that LKAB started to meet fierce competition in the 1970s. READ MORE

  5. 5. Influence of green pellet properties on pelletizing of magnetite iron ore

    Author : Seija Forsmo; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Process Metallurgy; Processmetallurgi;

    Abstract : Magnetite iron ore green pellets are produced by balling moist concentrates to green pellets, which are then dried, oxidized to hematite, sintered, cooled and transported to steelmaking plants. The existing theory for balling is based on the capillary theory, but its applicability under industrial balling conditions is unclear. READ MORE
