  1. 6. Investigation of Nickel- and Iron-Based Oxygen Carriers for Chemical-Looping Combustion

    Author : Erik Jerndal; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Carbon Dioxide Capture; Nickel Oxide; Fluidized Bed; Iron Oxide; Oxygen Carrier; Chemical-Looping Combustion; Ilmenite;

    Abstract : Carbon capture and storage has the potential of reducing emissions of CO2, generated by combustion of fossil fuels. Chemical-looping combustion is a method intended to capture CO2 without an energy consuming gas separation process. READ MORE

  2. 7. Nanoplasmonic Enhancement of Photon-to-Electron Conversion in Functionalized Iron Oxide Photoanodes

    Author : Beniamino Iandolo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photon-to-Electron Conversion; Hydrogen; Near-field Enhancement; Iron Oxide; Nanoparticles; Localized Plasmons; Water Splitting;

    Abstract : The ever increasing energy demand of modern society clashes with the accelerating depletion of the fossil fuels from which most of this energy is taken today. Moreover, fossil fuels consumption poses a severe threat on the Earth’s environment and climate through global warming. READ MORE

  3. 8. Building crystals out of crystals : Synthesis, structure and magnetic properties of iron oxide nanoparticles and self-assembled mesocrystals

    Author : Erik Wetterskog; Lennart Bergström; Markus Niederberger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; iron oxide; nanoparticle; synthesis; self-assembly; characterization; electron microscopy; scattering; magnetic properties; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on the fabrication and characterization of self-assembled arrays of magnetic iron oxide (Fe3O4, γ-Fe2O3 and Fe1-xO) nanoparticles. The synthesis of spherical and cubic iron oxide nanocrystals, with sizes between 5 and 30 nm and narrow size distributions, is demonstrated, along with a rigorous morphological characterization of the cubic nanoparticles. 4. 9. Complex Oxide Photonic Crystals

    Author : Dzmitry Dzibrou; Alex Grishin; Peter Lazor; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photonic crystals; magneto-optical effects; refractive index; iron garnet; Optics; Optik;

    Abstract : Microphotonics has been offering a body of ideas to prospective applicationsin optics. Among those, the concept of photonic integrated circuits (PIC’s) has recently spurred a substantial excitement into the scientific community. Relisation of the PIC’s becomes feasible as the size shrinkage of the optical elements is accomplished. READ MORE

  5. 10. The Utility of Ultrasmall Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Contrast Agents for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    Author : Lars Johansson; Håkan Ahlström; Hans-Jørgen Smith; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiology; Magnetic resonance imaging; Contrast agent; Iron Oxide; Cardiovascular; Radiologisk forskning; Radiological research; Radiologisk forskning;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the utility of the Ultrasmall Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Particle (USPIO), NC100150 Injection for assessment of macro- and microvascular morphology and function using magnetic resonance imaging. The feasibility of NC100150 Injection was tested for the following applications: Coronary angiography, Thrombus detection, Cardiac function, Myocardial perfusion, Assessment of myocardial blood volume and water exchange and finally assessment of endothelial integrity of the myocardium.
