21. Transition metal-catalyzed reduction of carbonyl compounds : Fe, Ru and Rh complexes as powerful hydride mediators
Abstract : A detailed mechanistic investigation of the previously reported ruthenium pseudo-dipeptide-catalyzed asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of aromatic ketones was performed. It was found that the addition of alkali metals has a large influence on both the reaction rate and the selectivity, and that the rate of the reaction was substantially increased when THF was used as a co-solvent. 22. The role of Southern Ocean fronts in the global climate system
Abstract : The location of fronts has a direct influence on both the physical and biological processes in the Southern Ocean. However, until recently fronts have been poorly resolved by available data and climate models. READ MORE

23. Iron and zinc in infancy : results from experimental trials in Sweden and Indonesiaa
Abstract : Background: Iron and zinc are difficult to provide in sufficient amounts in complementary foods to infants world-wide, resulting in high prevalence of both iron and zinc deficiency. These deficiency states cause anemia, delayed neurodevelopment, impaired growth, and increased susceptibility to infections such as diarrhea and respiratory infections. READ MORE

24. Bacteria and geochemistry in a former uranium open pit mine - mobilization of trace metals
Abstract : In mining areas around the world, chemical and biotic processes have lead to the release of toxic substances, e.g. metals. Microbial processes influence metal speciation, while the chemical environment shapes and controls microbial populations. READ MORE

25. Relation of nutritional status, immunity, hemoglobinopathy and falciparum malaria infection
Abstract : The interaction between nutritional status and malaria disease is complex and often controversial. Nutritional deficiencies (macro- or micro-nutrient) are thought to lead to malnutrition with subsequent susceptibility to malaria infection. On the other hand severe malaria or repeated malaria infections lead to malnutrition. READ MORE
