  1. 6. Brain Regeneration - in vitro and in vivo studies of exercise-related effects on brain plasticity

    Author : Cecilia Bull; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : brain; neural progenitor cells; stem cells; hippocampus; corpus collosum; rat; mouse; regeneration; neurogenesis; oligodendrogenesis; irradiation; exercise;

    Abstract : Neural stem and progenitor cells in the germinal regions of the adult brain, such as the hippocampus, are of great interest, because they provide the possibility for enhanced brain plasticity or can contribute to endogenous cell replacement after injury or disease. Voluntary exercise was recently shown to robustly induce cellular and structural plasticity, thereby contributing to overall brain health. READ MORE

  2. 7. Physical and Chemical Aspects of Radiation Induced Oxidative Dissolution of UO2

    Author : Olivia Roth; Mats Jonsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; UO2; spent nuclear fuel; dissolution; oxidation; radiolysis; irradiation; particle size; modeling; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Denna licensiatavhandling behandlar oxidativ upplösning av UO2. Upplösning av UO2 studeras huvudsakligen då UO2-matrisen hos använt kärnbränsle förväntas fungera som en barriär mot frigörande av radionuklider i ett framtida djupförvar. READ MORE

  3. 8. Stability and sorption capacity of montmorillonite colloids : Investigation of size fractional differences and effects of γ-irradiation

    Author : Karin Norrfors; Susanna Wold; Daniel Kaplan; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; montmorillonite; colloids; size effect; γ-irradiation; sorption; colloid stability; radionuclides; montmorillonit; kolloider; storlekseffekt; γ-bestrålning; sorption; kollodial stabilitet; radionuklider; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Bentonite clay is intended to form one of the barriers in most repositories of spent nuclear fuel located in granite. One important function of the bentonite barrier is to retard transport of radionuclides in the event of waste canister failure. Bentonite has a high sorption capacity of cations and its main constituent is montmorillonite. READ MORE

  4. 9. On the biological response to different biomaterials under normal and irradiated conditions

    Author : Louise Rydén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; biomaterials; bone; fibrosis; hydroxyapatite; inflammation; irradiation; Osseointegration; silicone; soft tissue; titanium;

    Abstract : There are several challenges when introducing an implant into a host. Concerning soft tissues, major complications are fibrosis and capsule contracture, whereas for bone, failure of osseointegration may occur. READ MORE

  5. 10. Radiation induced pneumonitis : clinical and experimental studies with special emphasis on the effect of smoking

    Author : Kenneth Nilsson; Leif Bjerner; roger Henriksson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pneumonitis; irradiation; bronchoalveolar lavage; breast cancer; interstitial lung disease; hyaluronan; mast cell; smoking;

    Abstract : Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) is an established method providing diagnostic support and evaluation of disease activity in interstitial lung disease (ILD). The aims of the present investigation were 1) to study the inflammatory response in pneumonitis evoked by irradiation. READ MORE
