  1. 21. Between the Probe and the Pump : An experimental study on cardiac performance analysis based on Echocardiography, tissue and laser Doppler

    Author : Laila Hübbert; Birgitta Janerot-Sjöberg; Ulf Dahlström; Sven-Erik Ricksten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Echocardiography is an ultrasound-based bedside, non-invasive and easily available cardiac diagnostic technique visualising the heart’s morphology and function. Quantification of cardiac wall motion can be measured with the tissue Doppler Imaging (TDI) modality which provides in humans a high diagnostic capacity to differentiate healthy from diseased myocardium with reduced function. 2. 22. On leg ischaemia : aspects of epidemiology and diagnostics

    Author : Björn Jönsson; Eric Wahlberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The first part of this thesis consists of a population-based epidemiological study on symptomatic leg arterial disease in a Swedish community, based on a postal questionnaire and systolic ankle pressure measurements, with calculation of the ankle-brachial pressure index (ABPI; usually ≥ 1.0 in healthy subjects). 3. 23. Cardiac and pulmonary side-effects of radiotherapy in early breast cancer

    Author : Ulla Blom Goldman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : breast cancer;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to study early and late side-effects to lung and heart in adjuvant locoregionalradiation therapy (LRRT) of early breast cancer (BC). Papers I-III were intervention studies aiming to reduce symptomatic/ radiological pneumonitis and functional changes after LRRT by applyingthe ipsilateral lung dose volume constraint V20 ≤ 30 %. 4. 24. Cardiac troponin T in clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Christian Löwbeer; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The cardiac troponin T (cTnT) assay became commercially available in the 1990s, and together with cardiac troponin I (cTnI), cTnT is today the marker of choice for the detection of myocardial infarction. However, when the cTnT assay was introduced it was insufficiently evaluated in two important fields: in patients with renal disease and in experimental cardiovascular research. READ MORE

  5. 25. Role of arginase in vascular function

    Author : Christian Jung; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Nitric oxide (NO) is central for the integrity of the cardiovascular system, the maintenance of endothelial function and the protection against ischaemic heart disease. The enzyme arginase is up-regulated during ischaemia-reperfusion and by hypoxia in cell culture and animal models which might be of pathophysiological relevance since it competes with NO synthase for their common substrate arginine.
