  1. 1. Porcine myocardial ischemia-reperfusion studies on cardioprotection, ventricular arrhythmia and electrophysiology

    Author : Jacob Odenstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : porcine; myocardial ischemia; ventricular arrhythmia; sudden cardiac death; electrophysiology; vectorcardiography; endocardial mapping; spinal cord stimulation;

    Abstract : Background: Coronary artery disease is the primary cause of death in adults in the industrialised world and ventricular fibrillation associated with myocardial ischemia is the main cause of sudden cardiac death. Restoration of blood flow and preservation of myocardial integrity throughout ischemia and reperfusion is essential to improve clinical outcome. READ MORE

  2. 2. Common mechanism for teratogenicity of antiepileptic drugs : Drug-induced embryonic arrhythmia and hypoxia-reoxygenation damage

    Author : Faranak Azarbayjani; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Atiepileptik drugs; embryonic heart; arrhythmia; cleft palate; ROS; antioxidants; Ikr; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Abstract : The Antiepilptic drugs (AEDs) phenytoin (PHT), carbamazepine (CBZ), phenobarbital (PB), tri- and dimethadione (TMD and DMD) are known teratogens having a common malformation pattern in human and animal studies. This thesis was designed chiefly to test a hypothesis correlating the teratogenicity of these AEDs to episodes of pharmacologically induced embryonic arrhythmia and hypoxia-reoxygenation damage. 3. 3. Acute coronary syndromes. The prognostic importance of hypertension, diabetes and vectorcardiographic markers

    Author : Markus Lingman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute coronary syndromes; hypertension; diabetes; percutaneous coronary intervention; prognosis; myocardial ischemia; coronary artery disease; electrocardiography; vectorcardiography; arrhythmia; sudden death; electrophysiology;

    Abstract : Research questions: 1 Is hypertension and diabetes associated with the future risk of death, and recurrent manifestations of cardiovascular disease in acute coronary syndromes (ACS)? 2 How does myocardial ischemia affect depolarization and repolarization of the heart during the early phase of an acute myocardial infarction? 3 What is the prognostic value of accepted vectorcardiographic markers in relation to future risk of sudden cardiac death after ACS? Methodology: Papers I, III and IV studied patients with ACS prospectively and consecutively included at the coronary care unit of Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Paper I deals with 2,329 patients who were followed for a median of 8 years. READ MORE

  4. 4. Electrocardiographic Imaging of Myocardial Ischemia, Infarction and Scar: Correlation with SPECT, MRI and Arrhythmias

    Author : David G Strauss; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Electrocardiography; Imaging; Arrhythmias; Ischemia; Infarction; Cardiomyopathy; SPECT; MRI;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the development and testing of electrocardiographic (ECG) methods to diagnose and characterize myocardial ischemia, infarction and fibrosis (scar). The goal is to provide improved decision support to physicians regarding the optimal selection of patients for two costly, invasive therapies – percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI) and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) for patients with heart failure and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). 5. 5. Catching broken hearts - Electrocardiography and in-hospital outcome in Takotsubo syndrome versus ST elevation myocardial infarction

    Author : Rickard Zeijlon; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Takotsubo syndrome; ST elevation myocardial infarction; electrocardiography; arrhythmia; mortality; pathophysiology;

    Abstract : BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Takotsubo syndrome (TS) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have similar symptoms, non-invasive test results and complications. Whereas AMI is caused by cardiac ischemia, the pathophysiology of TS is incompletely understood. READ MORE
