  1. 11. Energy metabolism in skeletal muscle during ischemia and reperfusion. Experimental and clinical aspects

    Author : Jonas Lundberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : energy metabolism; skeletal muscle; ischemia; reperfusion; MRS; hypothermia; singlet oxygen energy.;

    Abstract : Microsurgical operations, using free vascularised transfer of tissues, induce an obligatory period of ischemia followed by reperfusion. The degree of ischemia and reperfusion injury is dependent on the ischemia time. READ MORE

  2. 12. Electrocardiographic Imaging of Myocardial Ischemia, Infarction and Scar: Correlation with SPECT, MRI and Arrhythmias

    Author : David G Strauss; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Electrocardiography; Imaging; Arrhythmias; Ischemia; Infarction; Cardiomyopathy; SPECT; MRI;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the development and testing of electrocardiographic (ECG) methods to diagnose and characterize myocardial ischemia, infarction and fibrosis (scar). The goal is to provide improved decision support to physicians regarding the optimal selection of patients for two costly, invasive therapies – percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI) and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) for patients with heart failure and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). 3. 13. Renal Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Diabetes : Experimental Studies in the Rat

    Author : Jan Melin; Bengt Rippe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; diabetes mellitus; ischemia reperfusion; rat; end-stage renal disease; inflammation; fibrosis; hyaluronan; CD44; treatment; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the leading causes of end stage renal failure. An increased susceptibility to renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-injury was found in DM rats. Unilateral renal ischemia for as short as 20 minutes led to an irreversible progressive injury in DM kidneys, whereas the injury in non-DM kidneys was almost reversible. READ MORE

  4. 14. Energy-Related Metabolites during and after Induced Myocardial Ischemia and Retroperfusion of the Coronary Sinus : An Experimental Study in the Pig with the Microdialysis Technique and Extracorporeal Circulation

    Author : Vitas Zemgulis; Rolf Ekroth; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Ischemia; myocardial infarction; reperfusion; energy metabolism; coronary sinus retroperfusion; microdialysis; taurine; nucleoside transport; adenosine; aerobic lactate production; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Thoracic and Cardivascular Suregery; kirurgi; särskilt thoraxkirurgi;

    Abstract : In the clinical setting great efforts have been made with contradictory results to operate upon acutely myocardial ischemic patients. The reasons for the absence of unambiguous results are not well understood nor are they scientifically explored. READ MORE

  5. 15. Experimental porcine models of retinal ischemia

    Author : Håkan Morén; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; retinal ischemia; animal model; multifocal electroretinography; intraarterial coiling; retinal vasculature;

    Abstract : Retinal ischaemia resulting from e.g. diabetes, vein thrombosis or arterial occlusion, is one of the major causes of visual impairment and blindness. Although new methods of treatment are being developed, there is still a need for more effective pharmacological forms of treatment. READ MORE
