1. Islet amyloid polypeptide : Perspectives on the storage and plasma concentration of islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) in rodent models of obesity and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and aspects of amyloidogenesis andelimination of IAPP
Abstract : The present study was aimed to investigate plasma concentrations and pancreatic storage of IAPP in relation to that of insulin in four different animal models with hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, obesity and/or NIDDM. The NMRI mice fed a high-fat diet for six months, the Psammomys on high-energy (HE) diet and the genetically obese (ob/ob) mice studied for one year all revealed significantly elevated plasma IAPP concentrations, while the IAPP levels were unchanged in the spontaneously diabetic GK rats during a glucose tolerance test. 2. Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) in Type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer disease
Abstract : The misfolding and aggregation of the beta cell hormone islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) into amyloid fibrils is the main pathological finding in islets of Langerhans in type 2 diabetes. Pathological assemblies of IAPP are cytotoxic and believed to contribute to the loss of insulin-producing beta cells. READ MORE

3. Proislet Amyloid Polypeptide (proIAPP) : Impaired Processing is an Important Factor in Early Amyloidogenesis in Type 2 Diabetes
Abstract : Amyloid is defined as extracellular protein aggregates with a characteristic fibrillar ultra-structure, Congo red affinity and a unique x-ray diffraction pattern. At present, 25 different human amyloid fibril proteins have been identified, and amyloid aggregation is associated with pathological manifestations such as Alzheimer’s disease, spongiform encephalopathy and type 2 diabetes. 4. Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) : Mechanisms of Amyloidogenesis in the Pancreatic Islets and Potential Roles in Diabetes Mellitus
Abstract : Islet amyloid is the most common characteristic feature of the islets in type 2 diabetes, being found in up to 90% of diabetic patients at post-mortem. lt has as its unique component the islet beta-cell peptide islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP), which is eo-secreted with insulin. 5. Islet Amyloid Polypeptide: Interaction with Amyloid Beta, Alpha-Synuclein and BRICHOS
Abstract : Amyloid, the congophilic deposits of misfolded protein, are pathological hallmarks of many common diseases, among others, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Amyloid beta (Aβ) forms senile plaques in AD, alpha-synuclein (aSyn) forms Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites in PD, islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) forms islet amyloid in T2D. READ MORE
