  1. 1. Speech and language in patients with an isolated cleft palate and/or 22q11 deletion syndrome

    Author : Christina Persson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : isolated cleft palate; 22q11 deletion syndrome; articulation; language; velopharyngeal impairment; intelligibility.;

    Abstract : Aims: To study speech with regard to articulation and perceptual speech symptoms related to velopharyngeal dysfunction, intelligibility and language ability in patients born with a) an isolated cleft palate with or without additional malformations/syndromes, or b) 22q11 deletion syndrome (22q11 DS).Materials and methods: Fifty-three patients (aged 3-10 years) born with an isolated cleft palate and 30 non-cleft children participated in studies I and II, and 65 consecutively referred patients with 22q11 DS confirmed by a FISH-test participated in studies III and IV. 2. 2. Secretory activity in isolated rat stomach ECL cells

    Author : Erik Lindström; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; Calcium channels; Adrenaline; Pancreastatin; Prostaglandin E2; Galanin; Somatostatin; Histamine; Gastrin; VIP; PACAP; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : ECL cells are endocrine/paracrine cells located in the acid-producing part of the stomach. They are important regulators of gastric acid secretion in the stomach by virtue of their histamine synthesizing and secreting capacity. Histamine in turn stimulates parietal cells to secrete acid. 3. 3. Effects of free-stream turbulence and three-dimensional roughness on boundary layer transition

    Author : Santhosh Babu Mamidala; Jens H. M. Fransson; Bengt E. G. Fallenius; Jonathan Morrison; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; boundary-layer transition; intermittency; free-stream turbulence; electret microphones; isolated roughness; sinuous instability; varicose instability; Engineering Mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Abstract : External disturbances such as free-stream turbulence (FST), and isolated three-dimensional roughness are strong disturbance sources to the laminar boundary layers (BLs), which can lead to a rapid transition to turbulence. The transition process eventuates to increase in skin-friction coefficient and heat transfer rate and hence, both of the aforementioned disturbance sources have practical importance. READ MORE

  4. 4. Population size and genetic diversity of Nigerian lions (Panthera leo)

    Author : Talatu Tende; MEMEG; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; non-invasive sampling; faecal DNA; protected area; isolated population; Panthera leo;

    Abstract : High growth rate in human populations, agricultural developments and industrialization have impinged negatively on the natural habitats of most large carnivores, causing fragmentation, isolation and consequently reduction in population size. Lions (Panthera leo) that once roamed most parts of Southern Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North America, northern part of South America and most parts of Africa are today found only in parts of sub-Saharan Africa and at a single site in India. 5. 5. Structure-Specific Vibrational Modes of Isolated Biomolecules Studied with Mid- and Far-Infrared Laser Spectroscopy

    Author : Vasyl Yatsyna; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; far-infrared gas-phase spectroscopy; conformers; vibrational anharmonicity; infrared multiple photon dissociation; peptide structure; folded and extended peptides; hydrogen bonding;

    Abstract : Biomolecular structure elucidation is crucial for our detailed understanding of various biological processes, since there is an intimate relationship between the biomolecular function and structure. In this respect, isolated biomolecules, despite being outside of their natural environment, are perfect model systems for in-depth studies of various fundamental interactions that govern the formation of biomolecular structure.
