1. Functional and Modular As=C and P=C Group Motifs
Abstract : This work focuses on the design, synthesis, characterization, and application projections of low-coordinated heavy pnictogen-containing (described by the generic letter E, hence E=C) phosphaalkenes (P=C) and arsaalkenes (As=C), with emphasis on the E=C group motifs. The work aims to understand their functional and modular character, reactivity, and potential applications by stabilizing, isolating, and characterizing these species in low-coordination environments. 2. Novel strategies to increase throughput and differentiate lipid isomers in mass spectrometry imaging : Development of computational tools and complex mass spectrometric methods for nanospray desorption electrospray ionization
Abstract : In this thesis, method development for improved analyte identification and throughput in mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) is discussed. In MSI, the spatial distribution of analytes from a sample is determined and visualized, information about the detected molecules interaction within the sample can thereby the deduced. READ MORE

3. Isotope-Selective Spectroscopy: Fast Timing R&D and fp-Shell Mirror Isomers
Abstract : This thesis highlights the research and development of a new plastic-scintillator detector for time-of-flight measurements in relativistic heavy-ion beam experiments. The detector makes possible the identification of different ion species on flight distances as short as a few meters. READ MORE

4. Sources of dioxins and other POPs to the marine environment : Identification and apportionment using pattern analysis and receptor modeling
Abstract : In the studies underlying this thesis, various source tracing techniques were applied to environmental samples from the Baltic region. Comprehensive sampling and analysis of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in surface sediments in Swedish coastal and offshore areas resulted in a unique data set for this region. 5. Thermal formation and chlorination of dioxins and dioxin-like compounds
Abstract : This thesis contributes to an increased understanding of the formation of dioxins and dioxin-like compounds in combustion processes. Although emissions to air from waste incineration facilities have been greatly reduced by the use of efficient air pollution control measures, the resulting residues (ashes and filters) are highly toxic and are classified as hazardous waste.
